Yes, but I think I read that on a Transpondia web page entitled "What are public funds?" that technically that only means the visa holder and not the sponsor...maybe Vicky and/or Garry can clarify? It is confusing isn't it  ::)

When my H was going to have to go on Job Seekers I posted this topic:

http://talk.uk-yankee.com/index.php?topic=26051.0

However not sure about a co-sponsor who is on benefit, as that kind of defeats the intent of a co-sponsor. I'd say if you can get something who isn't on benefit to co-sponsor you then it should be ok if your landlord provides the documents that he owns/rents the place and is allowing you to stay there.

anybody who is a UK citizen or has ILR is entitled to any public funds they qualify for, whether they have a non-UK fiancee/spouse or not.  The no public funds thing applies *only* to the person with the visa.
Now a triple citizen!

Student visa 9/06-->Int'l Grad Scheme 1/08-->FLR(M) 7/08-->ILR 6/10-->British citizenship 12/12

However, when my H was going to apply for Job Seekers they said he couldn't get it because I wasn't in the country, if I was in the country then he could get it but wouldn't be able to get any extra for me (which is clear and understandable) but obviously the people at the Job Centre were also not up to speed on what is and isn't true as far as immigration and benefit goes  ::)

The moral of the story, even those who should know whats going on sometimes don't  ???

Six hundred pounds is a lot different from six hundred dollars!!!

This should be enough, but still do that budget.

Vicky

Just a quick question...do you think that's enough for a couple who going to live on their own and pay their own bills. If not what would suffice? My db makes more than that a month but I'm just wondering what it would take to live on our own when we do finally take that leap.

where does he live reeka?
Colnbrook (I've finally figured out all this sh*t sorry if that confuses u lol I used to think he lived IN slough but I was wrong cus I didn't know all the counties or whatever they are called. Actually I still have a hard time with it but yeah that's where he lives because I read things like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colnbrook_with_Poyle and it still says it's part of Slough. Argh whatever lol I love Slough too).

I love Colnbrook it's got this quite little town look to it and I love the buildings on the main street. Anyway, we'd probably live around there as most of his family lives around there. 2 of his sisters live in Bucks & Iver. We've gone to Staines...0o I'd love to live in Staines [smiley=smitten.gif] but i think it's a bit pricey ha. I was checking prices of places and it seems like Dover (even though it's ubber far) is really inexpensive...the closer you go to the water the less expensive? :-\\\\ seems odd to me because it's different way here in california.

SORRY for hijacking!!  Can you email me? We can talk more about it in email...

When I was at Uni I used to work in a pub in Colnbrook....very nice!

£600 for a couple living on their own, paying bills, rent etc...in South East England....no, I don't think that would be enough.

0o very cool...do you mind me asking what pub?

He makes more than that but what would be?

I just found this when I googled the cost of living in the South East of England

"The south of England remains the most expensive place to live in the UK - with Buckinghamshire, Surrey and Middlesex the costliest counties."  great... [smiley=disappointed.gif]  im feeling extreamly discouraged right now

That rule has changed.

I am working on a page that explains the new rules, which are immeasurably more complex.  Until that's prepared, the intrepid can try unmangling paragraphs 6 and 6A of HC395, and then untangling the new rules about tax credits.  I will not have a lucid, plain English description until about September...

I can't remember the name of the pub...it was about ten years ago!  I still remember the nice Aussie boys who used to drink in there though....

Anyway, re: finances.  Your boyfriend should know the cost of living, and must draw up a budget.  The south east is terribly expensive I'm afraid.

But doesn't her BF live at home?

Reeka, make him do some research...you can get an idea about how much utilities, council tax etc cost....

i do think 600 is undoable as well...but i don't know the area well at all!!!!

Aww alright...he wanted to know lol that's why i asked.

He said he wouldn't mind moving from there (as it's cheaper) but I'd like to be close to his family -nods-. We shall see within the next few years. thanks for your help! it's very much appreciated.

Yeah which obviously we'll be there for a while until we can get on our feet (Obviously depending where we get married determines the length of time)

So 600 is doable for other areas...that's all i need to know. There's sooooooooooooo many taxes and normal bills like electric and rent...im just wondering how people make it.
