treats for tea
« on: July 23, 2006, 09:33:03 PM »
I want to send a package to my old tea buddies back home. We used to meet for tea once a week without fail, and t's probably the thing I miss most. I'm sending a bunch of tea, but want to include some biscuits and cakes that travel reasonably well and are not easily found in the U.S....And are yummy and special! What would you put in the package?

McVities, Jaffa cakes and jammie dodgers always go down well. Maybe a Milk Tray?

Tunnock's teacakes!

Those look awesome on their website. Can I get them in England?

I think so!  I lived in England for a short while, and i think we could get them there.... not everywhere, mind, but in some supermarkets.

Yes!  They're in a yellow box in the biscuit section.  Love them.  :)

They're brilliant!

The father of a boy in my office is an accountant for Tunnocks and gets loads of freebies, so we get an almost endless supply!

I took some to the US, along with Jaffa cakes and chocolate HobNobs, and my family loved them all.

I finally got my hands on those Tunnock's teacakes. I bought a box to send off and a box for us. They are so delectable! They bear no relation to the marshmallow treats you find in the States. I'll have to mail the other box off tomorrow before I crack it open.  ;D

Jaffa Cakes! Jaffa Cakes! Jaffa Cakes!

We don't quite deny entry to our home to our English friends who come for visits without a large package of Jaffa cakes...

...but it's close!  ;)

Jaffa Cakes are slowly infiltrating the US... my local grocery started carrying them a few months ago! :D

I'm in Wisconsin - the last place you'd expect to find them!  Our store shelves them in the "international" section near the Indian foods.  I almost fell over when I came across them one day... and promptly finished off the entire box as soon as I got home. ::)

is that a jewel store? they redid the one in my hometown last year & put in this whole ethnic section, with the same sort of layout--indian right next to british.

the only problem is that everything on the shelves is out of date.  :(
