Citizenship by decent - grandparents???
« on: July 26, 2006, 05:22:32 PM »
I have a friend who's grandmother was born in the UK and retained her citizenship. Does she qualify in any way for citizenship in the UK?

nope.  If she's a Commonwealth citizen (ie has Canadian, Australian, etc citizenship) she'd qualify for an ancestry visa, but if she's American, she won't get any immigration benefit from it at all.

(this is assuming that her parent with the British mother was born outside of the UK.)

Now a triple citizen!

Student visa 9/06-->Int'l Grad Scheme 1/08-->FLR(M) 7/08-->ILR 6/10-->British citizenship 12/12
