Question: BUNAC to FLR

Since trying to figure out our options, my boyfriend and I have decided to go the easier route and get married in the US instead of the UK. My question is, if we get married here, and then I enter Britain on a BUNAC visa, will it be easy (or even possible) to apply for a FLR visa while on BUNAC?

i'm assuming getting a spouse visa right away isn't an option then?  (don't know the answer to your question, I'm afraid, but I strongly suspect it won't be possible.)

I don't think it will be possible. I think if you can, it'd be a lot easier to just get a spousal visa right away (that way you can work in the UK as soon as you arrive anyway).

I know there's a regulation that doesn't allow VISITORS to apply for FLR status, but no idea where BUNAC stands in this.  In my opinion, BUNAC is just a fancy visitor's visa, since it's still under 6 months, can't be extended, and has restrictions.  You can enter the UK on a visitor's visa/VWP (or BUNAC?), then leave the country to apply for your FLR and then enter as a spouse.  Someone else (probably Victoria) will have to clarify this.

If you're married in the US, you shouldn't need to enter on a BUNAC visa.  You should enter on a spousal visa because you'll already be married.  A BUNAC visa is a waste of money if you're married in the US.

Aless is right.  You would not be able to switch in country to a spousal visa from the BUNAC.

Thank you guys! I was hoping that wouldnt be the case just because it makes things alittle bit harder to have to apply for a spousal visa, but I should've expected that. lol

Ah okay I get it now... FLR is if you are already in the UK and spousal visa has to be applied for outside the UK! Sorry about that! It all makes alot more sense now! Thank you guys

No.  FLR is a broad term that covers settlement visas.  A spousal visa is a type of FLR.  You can apply for FLR inside or outside the UK, depending on what visa you used to enter the UK.  If you enter on a fiancee visa, you can apply for FLR from within the UK.  If you enter as a visitor, you have to apply for FLR at a consulate.

Sorry Kristi, but not quite.  You wouldn't apply for FURTHER leave to REMAIN unless you were already in the UK...you would apply for leave to ENTER, therefore a spousal visa from abroad cannot be FLR.
