AAAKKK!! Help, chicken problem!!
« on: August 02, 2006, 04:09:29 PM »
I boiled a chicken the other day, to make chicken broth to save for cooking with later, and wanted to use the chicken itself for another dish. However, after it's sat in the fridge for a day, after boiling it, (I didn't use it right away, obviously) the chicken is sitting in gellied blobby stuff. If I take the chicken out, will the gellied blobby stuff turn back into broth when heated?? I didn't add anything to it while cooking, other than spices. Do I have to add more water? I don't wanna throw it away, as while it was hot, that broth was yummy.

It's just the gelatinous fat!   :D  It'll boil back down with no problem.

Yay!! Thank you Lola. Do I just reheat it when I want to use it? Does it have to boil? Can I freeze it if I don't want to use it right away? Can you tell I've never made homemade broth before??

Definitely boil it before using it.  If you don't want to use it right away, freeze it in an ice cube tray so you can use a little at a time.   ;)

Thank you!! But I never removed the veggies, because I wanted to make chicken noodle soup out of it. So it's chunky. Should I boil the noodles in it or seperately? BTW, thanks for your help Lola, you rock!! [smiley=guitarist.gif] [smiley=chef.gif] [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

i always strain the broth before I make soup.  Then I boil it back up and add all the goodies, fresh veg, sauteed onions, chicken and then noodles - although I prefer pot barley in homemade soup - it doesn't get soggy like pasta.
