My father died yesterday.
He had been in and out of hospitals for quite some time now.
I won't be going to the funeral because a Jewish funeral has to take place within 48 hours of the death, and it was too difficult for my family to scramble about and deal with the arrangements plus deal with my husband and me coming from England. My mum called and told us not to come (after she told me he had died.) We might not have made it in time, anyway. (For all I know, the funeral has already started.)
Also, my husband has health problems which make it difficult for him to travel (he is working on fixing this; he coincidentally had a doctor's appointment about this today), which is why I haven't seen my family since I moved here over a year ago. After the long-distance relationship, it's just too traumatic for me to take a plane to America without him.
Oh yeah, today is my mum's birthday as well.
