Hey ya'll,

We are running into a few snafu's getting our finances together for our year long stay in the UK.  I was wondering if you all had any idea if we could go to Liverpool (our flight is bought and paid for leaving the 28th of august) on a visitor's visa, then apply for a student's visa once we got our bill from the university (DH's 401K is requiring an actual bill and the university doesn't issue those until October - class starts Sept 25 and he has to be there approx a week beforehand for other course related activities)  We also haven't secured a place to live - we would like to see what we are going to be living in before we sign any contracts.  Any advice would be helpful!  Thanks so much!

You cannot switch to any other visa while on a visitor visa.  You have to enter the UK on his student visa.
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…
