black forest gateau recipe?
« on: August 08, 2006, 04:55:05 PM »
Anyone have a recipe for Black Forest Gateau they would care to share.  Hubby is craving it something awful and there is no place to buy one where we are in the US.  I have looked online and there are so many recipes but i'd love to find one someone has used and had good luck with.

Will you be using a boxed cake mix or baking the cake from scratch?

I don't have the recipe I use on me at the moment, but this seems very similar. If you, like me, weren't baking the cake itself from scratch, you just bake a boxed cake mix and proceed with the assembly of this recipe from the part that says, "Split cake layers in half horizontally to make 4 layers. Make fine crumbs using 1 cake layer; set crumbs aside." Mine looked like this when it was finished. I think you'd need another can of cherries to make it look like mine, though.

Wow!! your cake looks so yummy.  I will try this recipe and see how it goes.  I don't mind doing it all from scratch.  I was wondering about the cherries, all the recipes i found so far asked for black cherries morello? cherries and i hadn't seen any in the store so wasn't sure if pie filling would work but it looks like it will.  Thanks for posting!!

No problem! I used tart pie filling cherries on the inside but they weren't very pretty, so I used run of the mill pie filling cherries for the top.

And, I now make all my cakes from scratch, too :) Hope yours turns out well!
