Will you be using a boxed cake mix or baking the cake from scratch?
I don't have the recipe I use on me at the moment, but
this seems very similar. If you, like me, weren't baking the cake itself from scratch, you just bake a boxed cake mix and proceed with the assembly of this recipe from the part that says, "Split cake layers in half horizontally to make 4 layers. Make fine crumbs using 1 cake layer; set crumbs aside." Mine looked like
this when it was finished. I think you'd need another can of cherries to make it look like mine, though.
