Hi MeShell!
How are you doing since you had your surgery? It looks like you are doing well. How was the whole experience for you?

I just had some nightmare hospitalization. I went in on Jan 4th for some minor surgery to remove an ovary (due to cysts). It was laproscopic and I didn't even need to spend the night in the hospital. Well a few days later I ended up in the emergency room in terrible pain. It turned out that the surgeon accidentally cautery-burned a hole in my colon the size of a quarter! So I basically went in with belly full of poop and infection! I was in the hospital for 2 weeks. I have an incision from the bottom of my belly to 2 inches above my navel. They had to cut out the burned portion of the colon and fitted me with a colostomy bag!!!! Can you imagine waking up to that!! Fortunately the colostomy is only temporary for about 6-8 weeks. They have to then do surgery to put my colon back together again.  I'm a little scared of that after having gone thru this last one. They will need to open up this whole incision for that surgery.  But they have assured me that after the next surgery I will be back to normal again.

Oh Melissa I am soo sorry you had to go thru with that..you are very lucky they were able to sort you out.

A big fear of mine was getting peritonitis from having surgery.

the experience...well...I have to say for one thing I am 500% glad I went thru with it..I am feeling better and better. I can see changes daily especially when I wake up. My hands are so thin looking now, the other day I was in the kitchen with shorts on and Cassie said wow mom you legs are looking really skinny..these are the things that are keeping me from getting down about the fact of what I can eat and how much I can eat. Food for me was a big part of my life and I used it to make me happy and now I am having to finds other things that do it..My snoring is gone completely and I am sleeping thru the night where before I would wake up at least once a night. I am not waking up as tired as when I went to bed.

I went into Monsoon again today and tried on clothes OHH it was lovely to actually put on a pretty dress and it make me look like a female and not a big blob...

Overall I have had a great and easy time with my op and I owe alot of this to my research and the surgeon I picked. Not to say I haven't tried to eat the wrong things again and have paid for it and suffered..and not gotten any sympathy from anyone...lol..

I hope you start to mend soon Melissa..and they get you all sorted back to normal..I would give the surgeon that nicked my colon a mouth full!

Thanks Pebbles and MeShell! I am starting to feel better these last couple of days. I'm just trying to focus now on getting as healthy as I can before the next surgery. It's not going to be an easy one because they have to open up this big incision again and put the colon back together. But at least I am not starting out so ill! I have had 3 lawyers recommended to me so far by friends. I was waiting to feel better before I called one. I think I will be making a call on Monday to see what my options are. In the hospital I was told by the original surgeon and the patient advocate that "it's just a risk of laproscopic surgery" - in other words "sucks to be you, deal with it!".

MeShell - I'm so glad the WLS experience has worked out so well for you! I know it is a life-saving/altering surgery and I don't regret it myself at all!  I don't snore anymore either. It is an adjustment not being able to eat as much or certain foods and you can get down about it a little but the benifits so out-weigh that!  Every once in a while I think "man I would kill for a bowl of ice-cream" but I am so lactose intollerant and dump easily that I would only be able to have bite. But that's a good thing! At this point it has really helped train my brain to not even desire most of that stuff anymore.  Not that I don't ever indulge and pay for it. I don't get sympathy either! My husband just gets irratated and says "you should have known better!".
Not sure how warm it gets in your area but just think of how nice it will be for you to walk around next summer on a hot summer day and not be dripping with sweat after walking 5-feet! That's was one of the first things I noticed last summer.  And isn't it nice to be able to look at a clearance rack of clothes and actually find sizes that fit! That takes some mental adjusting too - I would automatically go for the big gal clothing. It took a while to be able to pick up a shirt and eye-ball it correctly whether or not it would fit.

Sorry for rambling on! Glad to hear you are doing so well
:)
Melissa
