Strep throat is another name for a sore throat caused by the streptococcal bacteria, ie it's a particular kind of sore throat.  

Marlespo, hasn't your husband ever heard of STREPsils? ;D


I'll use that as evidence!

My husband had never heard of it either---he said it is an american way to make a sore throat sound worse! ;-)

When my daughter had what I believe was strep here the doctor simply called it a bacterial throat infection---maybe it is a term used regionally in the UK.
