Coffee Makers?
« on: August 30, 2006, 12:46:13 PM »
I'm thinking about investing in a pod type coffee maker.
Does anyone use one? Advantages? Disadvantages?

Does anyone have any other single serving type machines they
would recommend?

I've got a Senseo brand pod machine.. I LOVE it.. LOL... I love my cuppa, however living by myself I found i'd waste even a small pot of coffee cos it'd go either cold/stale too quick.. Not with the Senseo.. nice hot cuppa every time..
I prefer the Kenco coffee pods to the Senseo brand ones.. I usually buy a bunch of different ones when i go and visit family in the states as well.
You'll find a brand you like..There are also sites online you can buy pods from too.

I was thinking about a Senseo.  I'm the only one in our house that drinks coffee and
like you, I don't really like having the coffee sitting around going stale.

Have you used a reusable pod filter?  Just wondering how well they work if you wanted
to make your own pods.

yep i have used the re fillable coffee pod thingy... Its okay if you only want one small cup. I like it when i want to use differant grinds of regular coffee. Course if you want to go through the hassle of using two different re usable pods you can get a larger cuppa..
With the Senseo anyways the re usable pod has to be used one at a time and only makes one cup.
Normal pre bought pods of course you can either use the one cup or two cup option..
I find that the two pods at a time with the two cup option give me a decent size cuppa..
But again thats my preference..

MeShell - Never tried the Tassimo tho i've heard that lots of folks like that too. Just happens they weren't out when i got my Senseo ..   :)

I use a french press. Heat the water in the kettle and minutes later, hot fresh coffee. Cheaper than a coffee pot (although I did buy a grinder) and works in any country.  ;D

Love, love, LOVE my Senseo!
I buy the standard dark roast pods in the supermarket, and occasionally treat myself to a 'fancy' one by buying pods on eBay or from Javapodz.com

I agree, I love my Senseo.  I'm also the only one who drinks coffee in my house so it's great.  Although when I was living in the US I always had  a large coffee maker. (Even when I lived by myself) I got a new one everytime I moved from Gevalia. (I moved a lot)  I would always make iced coffee with the leftovers.

I have a 8 cup coffee maker, I drink Iced coffee with the leftovers.  I do have a pod coffee maker, though I did not find the coffee strong enough, perhaps it was the pods I was using.

I like coffee in a French Press, but hate cleaning out the grinds.  As we both drink way more coffee than is good for us, we prefer a filter.

I use a French Press and I also treated myself to a coffee maker with a timer on it (took ages to find a nice one in the UK).

As far as the grounds - gardens LOVE them as do compost bins and they are FAB for flowers - just a thought. :)

WHERE did you find the maker with timer??!!  This is my dilemma right now.  I cant give up my fresh ground coffee so I wont buy the Senseo.   ;D

Gosh - don't know if I want to tell - as I said, it took me AGES!  ;)

There was one at Marks & Spencer and it was UGLY!

So, believe it or not - ARGOS..... http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4225276.htm

It's bigger than it looks - 12 cup capacity...

Argos also has several other brands with timers. Happy shopping ladies. :)

(oh and the sound of gurgling coffee on Saturday morning, while you're still under the covers is the BEST!)

Thanks for the link!  I have a coffee pot that Rich bought for me before I moved over, but it does not have a timer.  I still have my parents send me coffee beans from my beloved Trader Joe's too!   ;D
