Catfish!!
« on: January 30, 2004, 12:37:32 PM »
There's a restaurant (part of a chain) in Maidstone that serves CATFISH!  It's called Old Orleans and has (obviously) Southern Louisiana-style food.  I have applied for a "loyalty" card online and as soon as it comes, I am heading on down the road to Maidstone for some catfish!  I LOVE catfish!  I am so excited!!!!!!   [smiley=wacky.gif]

Oh! Oh!  I *love* Old Orleans!!  On our honeymoon in York, we ate there almost every day...just to get out of the rain really, but it was yummy!  They have pretty good deals on three course lunches as well.  Let us know how the catfish is, Peedal.  I didn't try that, but the burgers were awesome.  :)

Along the catfish lines, a boss took me to lunch one day at a posh place in London.  Imagine my surprise when one of the items on the menu was Maryland soft crabs.  OMG were they good.

I'll let you know, Wishstar!  And if it's REALLY good, then you and hubby will have to take the train down to OUR neck of the woods and go there with us!!  (It's only a 25 minute bus ride from our house!)  ;)

Caitlinn - which restaurant was that?!   :D

Peedal, I wish I could remember!  It was a posh eating club where you had to be a member.  All I can remember is that it was in sight of the Houses of Parliament.

Oooh, catfish! Yes, let us know!

It wasn't too long ago my husband came back from the local chippy with a bag of catfish. You see, they had a sign up, "Catfish for sale" and he asked if it was the real catfish, or fish for a cat. It turned out to be the latter, leftover small cuts. He bought some. And our cat wouldn't touch it. Bet she wanted real catfish too.

ROFL!!

I am sorry to say this as a seafood lover...but I really don't like catfish....I can eat it..and when it is clean and fresh I like it, but more often than not I get the piece that tastes like the bottom of whatever  gross body of water it's been feeding on.  I hate that earthy dirt taste you can get sometimes.  As a result I tend to avoid it.

Maybe I am not eating it at the right places or something....

Oh, my catfish (from Publix - where shopping is a pleasure) never tasted earthy or gritty.  It was just wonderfully moist fish that tastes great marinated in Cajun spices or covered with Goldfish Crackers!  ;D

And Sonny's Real Pit B-B-Q does pretty good catfish, as does Grandy's (thought at Grandy's it's seasonal - around Lent).
