Yup..I am the future wife of a American man.(wedding in July 2008)...he is on this site too..under the name of doc_kien_borts.

Just wanted to see if there were any husbands that had moved from US to UK.  Posts I read seem to come from wives and it just set me wondering.

I'm sure there must be and its probably a case of me not finding those particular posts.  Or could the reason be that women post far more?

I lived in US for 3 years before we came back to UK (for a lot of different reasons, but thats a different story) - and my husband who once used to say that 'he would never live anywhere else but America' has liked it here from the moment he arrived and has changed his views on England and the English people since living here.

It would be great to hear of other views from US husbands on how they have coped, what they miss and what they like/love about england

Thank you Rosiebee - I can't wait for the next month for be over, and be back in the UK. Got to sell (or rent) the house here in the USA, hand in my notice to work, find the cat a home, find a place to live in the UK, a school for daughter in the UK..... etc etc I am going to be busy!!

I'm a Yank married to a Brit.  We plan on moving to the UK ASAP in 2013.  My wife wants to be near her family in the North Midlands.  I have always like England when on holiday and the northerner's are really friendly.  I'm not sure how I will cope with the long term effects of the weather.  Saying that, the heat here in the US really sucks.  Things I like about England.
1) Countryside and old architecture
2) The love of dogs
3) Strong sense of tradition and patriotism
4) Pub food and drink
5) HP sauce, lamb with real mint, curry curry and more curry
I think moving to England will be like Marmite.  You love it or hate it.

Me too.  Husband moved here in 2010 and we are about to embark on our final visa.  He was super homesick about 12 months after moving here but we got through it and as long as I keep him in A1 and hidden valley ranch dressing then he's happy lol.

And thank god for espn America!

Nice to see a few of us here. I'm still a UK wife We're heading for our ILR application in May/June time. My hubby tends to freeze (physically and mentally) at any significant sign of stress which isn't helpful   That said he really can't help it - it's like looking at a rabbit stuck in the headlights! Roll on ILR application time

Hello all..

I'm a Texas gent, in North Carolina working, engaged to a "Lil lady o' The Fens" living outside of Newmarket.We're closing in on a year anniversary in our relationship, and I've been over three times to see her, and the times in between are extremely hard for us both.

We met online, and within a couple of weeks were mad about each other, and we realized just how much we were meant for each other. Her two sons and even the family dog fell right in with me as well, and this makes me extremely happy. The youngest son, 9, thinks Theresa May a prat 

The hardest thing for us right now is the fact that she is only working part time at the local college, in order to be available in the evenings for the younger son, which brings her below the minimum required income level to sponsor me. I've been registering with recruiters there for months, and applying for every job available that matches my background and skills..With no luck to date. It's very hard to find a sponsoring company there.

Anyway, my sister fell in love with an English man 5 years ago, and moved there to marry him and make a new life. When I first met Lisa and we talked, we both found it incredible that she lived only 6 miles from my sister! Spooky, eh? 

I've grown to love the area she lives in, in my three brief visits there. When someone here in the States now describes something as 'old', I laugh at them.
