Checked baggage and Air Lingus.....
« on: September 10, 2006, 09:21:08 AM »
Last week I went onto Air Lingus and tried to book tickets, but they were having system problems.  I did look and noticed that each passenger is allowed 2 pieces of checked baggage with a total weight of 140lbs.

I finally called this week to book our flights and got an e-mail confirmation with all the information on it.  Well, they decided to change their baggage limitations and now we are each only allowed 2 pieces with a total weight of 80lbs!

This change went into effect last week, but effects anyone who bought their tickets as of early August.  I am angry, but mostly at myself because I should have made a point to ask when I booked the tickets (although, I think they should have told me on the phone anyway).  I feel really bad for people who booked their tickets in August and now have to deal with this.

I told my husband he could only bring two changes of clothes to have room for my shopping.  He wasn't amused!

Whoa!  That's a significant drop!  I flew them in July and August and the limit was 2 bags for 100lbs.

Most airlines are going moving to two 50 lbs bags (total of 100lbs) but man, I checked because I couldn't believe it, but they are not only reducing to 80lbs total, but they are charging €8 PER BAG after the start of the year!

All I can say is that they are off my list of airlines now.  I never did actually like them, but they were the only airline flying direct between Chicago and Dublin.

*SIGH*

Of course I am United Airlines Premier Executive (Star Alliance Gold) and so when I fly, I generally get 3 pieces of up to 70lbs a piece, plus my carry ons.  I guess traveling too much pays!  :-[

That's a real shame. When I first moved, I picked Aer Lingus on purpose b/c of it's generous luggage allowance. So much for that option. :(
