What if UK citizen wants to work in US as a spouse?
« on: September 12, 2006, 06:03:23 PM »
This is a question for future reference, as I'm moving to the UK this January to live with my English husband-to-be. I know this is a site for Americans living in the UK, but I imagine someone's got some info regarding living in the US. If we wanted to move back to the US eventually, can he work automatically when we come here, or is there a long drawn-out process for getting him a work visa, etc. Anyone know the way it works? Thanks!!

You still have to get him a visa and it is not as easy as coming to the UK.

June

Edit:  not a work visa though, just a visa to settle based on marriage.

If you filed the I-130 for him, once processed and approved, (after the Embassy interview) he would be able to work straightaway.

There is no set time for the visa to be issued from your beginning the paperwork - could be a matter of months or up to a year.

Once issued, the visa is good for six months.

Your starting point for anything to do with visas to the US should begin with uscis.gov.

Also "Repatriation" board here is the right board to answer questions about the other direction!  ;D
