Whisper - Newark is my home airport.  Flights from the UK arrive into Terminal B, since that is where immigration & customs is located.  You will have to go through immigration and then retrieve your baggage and re-check it at Terminal A.

Here is a link to a map of the terminals.

The monorail runs pretty frequently and it will get you to the next terminal fairly quickly.  I think you'll have plenty of time for the transfer, but I'd be quick, just in case.  You mentioned you were traveling in Nov.  If it's around Thanksgiving week, you can be sure the airport is going extremely crowded.

I'll be at the airport on Monday and I can ask. Just to confirm.

i fly into/out of newark every few months.  mekaw is spot on.  the reason you need to claim your back and then re-check is that it needs to be screened at your first airport.  your bags with have a tag on then that will say UK - EWR - Chicago.  But they will be spit out onto the conveyer in newark.  when you leave customs, there's a big sign to the left for re-checking baggage.  hard to miss.  then just take the train to terminal A.

sorry just a bit confused... mekaw are you saying you have to take it to Terminal A to recheck? Because from what meggles says you recheck it after you leave immigration and customs and THEN get on the monrail to Terminal A.   If it is the latter, then I am familiar with that as that is what Chicago does sometimes.

i just re-read everything and i see why you're confused.  the last time i did an international to domestic flight transfer at newark was 18 months ago.  i deplaned, immigration, collected luggage, customs, re-checked right after customs.  i then took the monorail to the terminal where i was departing (only schlepping my hand luggage).

but even if they've changed it (which is what i'm assuming)- it only means taking your luggage on a short monorail ride to terminal A for re-checking in.

if you're worried about it- call continental- or post on flyertalk.com.  they tend to know EVERYTHING about flying.

I am not worried about it.  I flown enough to know to allow a good amount of time in between changes.  It's DH I worry about. I need to know all the answers before I tell him or he will start to panic. He's silly that way!  But I love him!

On a side note.. dh was asking if you can see New York at all when you fly into newark?

Sorry if I confused you!  You may be able to re-check after customs, things are always changing and with the new security measures in place, who knows anymore!  ???   I just flew domestically this week and the security was different at both airports. I would wait and call before you fly.  They may have us re-packing in front of TSA by then!  ;D

I'm going to be at Newark, Terminal B on Monday.  I'll ask, but I would call again closer to your travel date.

The runways at Newark are parallel to the NYC skyline.  So yes, you can see NYC, but depends on the side of the plane you are on.

whisper -
I was at Newark on Monday and I asked.  They are currently re-checking baggage after customs, but they advised calling and checking before you fly.

who is it you need to directly call? is it the airline themselves or the airport?
