Fantastic site for re-selling books (in the UK)
« on: September 23, 2006, 08:52:38 AM »
Has anyone ever used www.greenmetropolis.com? I've just found out about it through a book group forum I'm a member of. Basically, you sell any used book to them for a flat rate of £3. That covers postage as well. Your £3 goes into an account and you can then buy books from other members on the site -- again for a flat rate of £3.75. If you're looking to make money, Amazon is probably your best bet. But if you want to "trade" in books for others, greenmetropolis sounds like a good idea to me. Better yet, a portion of the money goes to the Woodland Trust.

Not sure about academic texts.

Just found out that you can actually withdraw cash from your account -- so it's not purely for trading in books. But I think you have to have a minimum of £10 in there or something like that before you can withdraw.

The other thing I like about it is that they give you extra money for postage if you're selling a hardcover book. That's one of the issues I've had with Amazon, so I've only ever listed paperbacks there.

Ditto. Jon gets really ticked off with me when I bring new books home. But it's an addiction!

I'm going to have a good look at this site. Thanks!

Hi, I'm chary and I'm a book addict.  :-\\\\

Still, as far as addictions go, it's a pretty nice one!

I've put all my old books up. The only problem I had was the condition. None of mine are unsellable but I have a very bad habit of cracking the spine when I read my books. I don't like them non cracked. So the only ones that have intact spines are brand new and never read.

I put them as acceptable, do you think people would mind?

That sounds acceptable to me. But isn't there also a place where you can add a further description? You could put something there about cracked spines if you didn't think 'acceptable' was enough.

I listed a bunch of my books on Green Metropolis last week and forgot to put my holiday settings on before coming to Cornwall for the week. Now I've sold a book, but can't get it posted until Thursday! I hope I don't get in trouble!  :(

I have just given 4 bags of books to Oxfam...this is my giving to charity.
I might try some with some books that I wasn't so sure of getting rid of.

I love the idea of sites like this, but I can never give up any of my books (unless I end up with more than one copy of something). :-\\\\
