TSA Update on Liquids/Aerosols/Gels Ban
« on: September 26, 2006, 04:22:43 AM »
From the TSA website...

"Effective Tuesday, September 26, TSA Is Adjusting The Ban On Liquids, Aerosols And Gels

There are two major changes:

   1. Travelers may now carry through security checkpoints travel-size toiletries (3 ounces or less) that fit comfortably in ONE, QUART-SIZE, clear plastic, zip-top bag.
   2. After clearing security, travelers can now bring beverages and other items purchased in the secure boarding area on-board aircraft.

At the checkpoint travelers will be asked to remove the zip-top bag of liquids and place it in a bin or on the conveyor belt. X-raying separately will allow TSA security officers to more easily examine the declared items.

In addition, larger amounts of prescription liquid medications, baby formula and diabetic glucose treatments must be declared at the checkpoint for additional screening.

It is unlikely that additional changes in the liquid, aerosol and gel policy will be made in the near future.

This security regimen applies to all domestic and international flights departing U.S. airports. Travelers should, however, check with transportation security authorities in their country-of-origin for flights originating at non-U.S. airports."

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.

The BAA relaxed their own restrictions last Friday (22 September) for all flights departing the UK, but they're still banning liquids on US-bound flights.  See here for details.

When I flew from Manchester on Friday, no liquids were being allowed through security, short of prescription medications and the other small concessions that were made shortly after the ban was instated - however, all the airside shops were open and unless you were flying to the US, any liquids bought after security could be brought on board the plane.  There were large signs to this effect posted on both landside and airside.

I'm excited to see the US lightening the security a bit. I'll be able to freshen up before seeing my boyfriend! I hope the UK will follow suit. I don't mind the travel sized thing and having to buy stuff after security, but think the complete ban is a bit much.

The US said they did studies that said the amount of liquids they are now allowing isn't enough to blow up a plane, so hopefully the UK will accept those results too.
