Airborne????
« on: October 04, 2006, 06:09:02 PM »
Does anyone if you can get Airborne here? I'm getting a horrible cold and it almost always helps me fight it off or at least make it less severe. I've looked in my town and don't seem to be able to find anything like it.

I don't know; I was wondering if you could get Zicam out there... it works wonders for me.

Hi Barb!

Did you try Holland & Barrett? Maybe they have something similar, if not the original.

I have friends who swear by Vicks First Defense, but I've never tried it myself.

I sent my son to look at h&b, no luck. Sadly the cold has got a hold of me now :(
I don't think they have Zicam here either. I like airborne because it's natural and is more preventive medicine. My bro is going to send me a bunch for next time. I'll share if anyone wants some.

I just saw airborne being sold in bulk at Sams Club in California.

I just drank some of that stuff today, and to be honest, I would rather suffer whatever cold I have at the moment, and it's a bad one. Every darn time I visit Houston, I seem to get really sick.  >:(

I have some Airborne here with me that I bought just before I left the US and....ugh.  I'm not even sure if it works or not but that stuff tastes vile!

Yep, it's like drinking watery poop. I was given the 'apple' flavour one. Is the orange one any better? nasty stuff

I don't like airborne either...but there are some quite nice soluble vitamin c tablets here.  And when I was ill a couple of weeks ago I used some soluble echinacea that I got from Boots.  It was pricey (about £6 I think) but I actually got it for free w/the 99p cold medicine I bought.  The flavour was quite nice and I used to put the tablet in a mug and add HOT water instead of cold for a soothing drink...

Don't know if it helped me get over my cold any sooner, though.
When I am grown-up I will understand how BEAUTIFUL it feels to administrate my life effectively.

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.

I may get blasted for saying this, but I don't believe in Airborne.  I think it's more mental than anything.  I don't believe it hurts, but it's just some vitamins in an effervescent form.  I can get vitamins anywhere.  I've had to laugh at the labelling--it should be trusted because it was developed by a schoolteacher!??  Now, I have respect for schoolteachers, and I know they are exposed to colds more than many are, but I don't remember them receiving any particular training in biochemical engineering or medicine!  Sorry, not buying into it.

Zicam, on the other hand, I do have more faith in.  I spoke with my pharmacist about it and he said that tests have shown zinc to shorten the common cold.  He had also seen studies that showed that zinc seemed to have better absorption nasally than if taken orally, so I started using the nasal kind of Zicam, and found it to be quite helpful.

I brought some back with me...I took a sachet of it before I got on the flight from Houston and I agree it was FOUL...tasted like watery alka selzer and I always found those to gross...

I did bring back some Hall's Defence C to help when we get a cold...they are sucky sweets...

Hmm about Airborne?? My husband and I were back in the states two weeks ago. On the third morning my husband started to feel a cold coming on....by 4pm that day, I felt it so we went straight to CVS to buy some Airborne. While I thought it would have helped me because I was right on the onset (with one hour) it didn't! Two weeks on we have both had a relapse from the first cold (even worse). I have been coughing like I never have before (my stomach muscles hurt!). We also went OTT on vitamin C. I guess it was too late? We have never been so ill. We should have stocked up on vitamins before the transatlantic flight (I think that is where we got it). Maybe it is more of a preventative remedy? We had the orange flavor and it wasn't too bad to get down.
