Brighton in November
« on: October 16, 2006, 08:15:55 PM »
I'm finishing up my itinerary and my friend in the West Midlands suggested I go down to Brighton for a day or so. I've never seen the real ocean (I've seen the Gulf of Mexico on the coast of Mississippi but I'm not sure if that qualifies as the ocean.)

I've seen photos from Brighton and it looks brilliant there. Has anyone been there in the autumn/winter? I'm just wondering if it's worth the trip if the weather is going to be poopy (for lack of a better word :D)

If the weather is bad then the markets may close early and the funfair rides at the bottom of the pier will be shut.  However, the shops will be open, the pubs will be open, and the Pavillion will be open.  I think it would still be worth going.

I have been in January about 3 years ago and then just last week.  Besides it being more pleasant to walk around last week, I didn't notice any difference.  All the same stuff and all the same shops etc.  It's a really cute area.

You won't see an ocean in Brighton either, only the English Channel!  :D

I need to study my world geography better, I guess!

Hm. Maybe I should just leave an open day and then judge whether or not I should go to Brighton once I arrive that week and see how the weather's going.

Well, that's good to know. I think it looks cute, too.

Thanks, ya'll!

We visit Brighton about every 6 weeks. It's a bit like an English New Orleans.

The city is fantastic, and as everyone else mentioned, there's plenty to do. The Lanes has fabulous shopping and restaurants, as well as the seaside entertainment.

If you want your trip focused around the sea, you may want to try not going on a cold, rainy day. At the seaside the rain tends to turn horizontal as it gets very windy all of a sudden.

If you go and good weather is predicted but it turns out nasty, you'll still have plenty of activities to keep you occupied.

Definitely go to Brighton!!! It is super easy to get to as well by train. There is also a St Christopher's hostel right on the street across from the water. I been in February and a few other times this year. And remember... there is no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate dress.  ;)

Check out this website for other day out ideas. I've used them before... cheap and convenient, plus the workers seem to actually like their jobs!
