Now i am all freaked out about coming back

After i move.  in August we get married, i move to UK for 2 years as future hubby may be starting new job making more $$$.  Plus we get to travel (and i get a job as well!)

Flash forward 2 years.  We want to go home to USA, but will not have bought a house or anything....i'm thinking our assets may be around 20K at that time........we won't be able to come back to the US?  Can my parents be supplemental Supporters?  

Now i'm paniced that once we move over, he can't come over with me because we won't have enough $$.....

There are several ways to do this. And yes, a co-sponsor is one of them. When you say 20k - is that pounds or dollars?
Don't forget that you can use your past three years tax returns AND your current income, etc.
Its really not a horrible process - A little more than going to the UK - but not horrible!

Since he has some debts to pay off (another reason i'm moving there....the dollar stinks now!) we'd probally save around 20,000 pounds over the few years. (maybe more, who knows)

I know my parents would be fine with co-sponsoring to get me home!!!!!  Plus they've paid off their house so they're good......

I can see me being over there, happy to get home then not being able to come back!  LOL.

At this point in time you shouldnt be worrying. Enjoy whats to come and deal with a move back to the US when and if it comes. As missy says, there are a few ways to get yourself and your husband back to the US if you want to. So much can happen in two years, who knows it might even be 4 years or 6 months! The way the rules and regs are changing minute by minute (it seems) now days, you'll just have to wait and see what you need to do when the time comes.

At the moment (Spring 03 - 04), a household size of two needs to show $15,150 in income (via tax returns, current US jobs, firm US job offers, and/or jobs abroad that will continue while in the USA - the particulars arent important). If you cant show that then you'll have to have some assets. The assets will have to equal five times the difference between your household requirement and your income as shown on the most recent tax return.

They do not ask for information on debts, only outstanding balances on mortgages for property that you own. So everything that shows a positive balance (savings accounts and investment accounts as well as profit from sale of houses and cars or other assets) is free to use towards your requirement.

That figure will surely go up in the next few years thanks to our little friend "inflation", so really you cant even begin to estimate what youre requirement will be and what you'll need to have by way of income and/or assets.

Your parents can act as co-sponsors if they have enough assets/income to support a household size that includes both of them, any dependants or people living in their house, you and your husband. If you dont live with them you may be able to exclude yourself from the household size, but your husband cannot be excluded weather he lives with them or not. For all I know the rules could change in 2 years and all of this wont apply anymore.

You just have to wait and see. Its nothing to be scared of and is actually a lot easier than it looks when all you see is people asking really specific questions about something that doesnt apply to you yet. It looks overwhelming and sometimes it is, but its nothing that should worry you now. If you ever want to return to the states, there's always a way.

Aimiloo - my husband & I are repatriating back to the US, most likely December of this year, but possibly earlier. Because of a divorce he went through before I came bouncing happily into his life, he has hardly anything. We don't have a house, we don't have money, we don't have anything except that he's got a job and a brilliant resume, and his skills are in demand at the moment in the US so we know we've got a good chance of earning more money in the US. Definitely more so than we do here. I also don't have a job here. Not one that's paid anyway.

We're getting a sponsor since we have diddly-squat to our names. Fortunately I've got a brother who makes a lot of money and he'll be doing the sponsoring. There's still the hope that he'll be able to get a job transfer to the US, so that would help, but we're not counting on it. In fact, we're counting on it being the hard way all around jsut becaue then if it ends up being easier, then good for us.

I haven't started stressing about the particulars of sponsorship yet, and stressing about the fact that on paper were as poor as monkeys, but I'm sure it will come once I start looking at the paperwork.
