Ranch Dressing: what do YOU put it on?
« on: October 18, 2006, 05:36:34 AM »
I love the stuff.
But i think i've gone off the deep end now... last night i poured ranch dressing over a wedge of steak pie.
Believe it or not, it was really good!!

Previously i have loved ranch dressing on apples, pizza crusts, and mixed into macaroni & cheese.

Does anyone want to share their guilty ranch dressing secrets?  (Keep it clean, folks!)  ;)

Heh.

I have yet to put it on anything sweet - like apples or sweet pies.

However pizza crust seems absolutely normal to me - dare I say, the way it should be used even? ;)

Haven't tried macaroni and cheese yet.  Absolutely love it on basically any other type of bread-y food.

I'm not a huge ranch fan (i like creamy French better...the REAL french dressing, that is..not that vinegrette junk over here..eww!) Anyways, I do like it on a steak/chicken salad (complete with fries and cheese!!) and on baked potatoes.

that's about it...

hubby, however, loves the stuff and is always trying to find something new to put it on...

I'll eat ranch dressing on pretty much anything, but I have an obsession for it on veggie sandwiches. It all started when I worked at Subway ages ago and would eat the veggie sub. Having that with ranch dressing instead of mustard, mayo, or one of the other sauces makes it absolutely heavenly. For some odd reason I love how the ranch dressing mixes in with the olives and pickles (I would put tons of these on the sandwiches).

I myself am a ranch o-holic as well. [smiley=2thumbsup.gif] I have never been a big salad person but if I have some ranch dressing I will eat a salad. I mainly use my ranch dressing as a dip usually. for things like  Veggies, Chicken strips, pizza crusts, soft pretzels, like a few on here have said mostly bread like stuff.  When I lived back home when I wud eat at Arbys an have 1 of there subs. I wud ask for some ranch dressing to put on my sandwich oh my gosh let me tell you that was  mmm mmm delicious!! Well it help that I had a friend who was the Manager of the store. now my DH will disagree with me on how delicious it is. he has never tried it though he cant get past how bad it smells he says. he is strange I know but I still adore & love him though! Im not sure about most people but I only like Kraft or Hidden Valley Ranch dressing. but I found a small bottle no name Ranch dressing at Tesco's or Asda's I didnt like it at all. so I have my family send me some Ranch from back home on ocassion.

Here's an easy Chicken & Ranch Dressing recipe:

HoneyMoon Chicken

Ingredients
--1 pound chicken breasts tenderloin slices
--Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing
--2 cups of cornflake cereal
--3 or 4 fresh Rosemary sprigs
--ground black pepper.

Put the cereal in the bowl and grind it up until it's almost a powder. You can use a blender or food processor but I just use my hands.  Add the rosemary and pepper to the cornflakes and mix up a little more

Take the chicken and dip each piece into the ranch dressing, then dredge the chicken in the cornflake/spice mix.  Place each piece on an overproof pan.

Bank at 275F for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and chicken is cooked thoroughly.  Enjoy!

You can also top the pieces with shredded cheese. Add the cheese to the chicken pieces in the last 5 minutes of baking...

That sounds like DD.  I often say that she likes a little food with her ranch.

Slightly off topic but I was hoping someone in the states can answer this:

I always use ranch packets that you have to mix with milk and mayo. I've just recently bought a few packets at Cyber Candy and it says to mix it with sour cream. Has this changed and has anyone else tried this? I love sour cream so I'm not at all bothered by it but wonder if it'll taste differently.

I would mix it w/sour cream to make a dip, and with milk/mayo to make salad dressing...
