Ahh. I didn't know you could use sour cream. Look forward to trying that.

How fattening can it get, though! They don't even do low fat sour cream here.

Try half fat creme fraiche instead.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Slightly off topic but I was hoping someone in the states can answer this:

I always use ranch packets that you have to mix with milk and mayo. I've just recently bought a few packets at Cyber Candy and it says to mix it with sour cream. Has this changed and has anyone else tried this? I love sour cream so I'm not at all bothered by it but wonder if it'll taste differently.

My Mom, Sisters & My Friends always used sour cream when they bought ranch packets to make a dip it was always delicious.

When I have sour cream I use it (or cream fraiche), but if I have a packet of ranch dressing on hand and no sour cream, I use mayo, and I throw in some chopped tomatoes to thin it out a bit. Goes great with those Iceland spicy fried chicken fingers. ;)

The milk and mayo combo is for the salad dressing and the sour cream one is for the dip... :)

Oops saw crabbitt beat me too it..

and yes Low fat Creme Fraich is lovely!

Back to the topic...

I love Ranch on Pizza and carrots, celery, salad and even use it to make savoury snacks... the powder of course...sprinkle a bit on some of those insipid gold fish type things and yummy!

What with us actually being closer to France?

I can't imagine... ;)

Let me have a go. :)

Sorry WVgirl REAL French dressing is nothing close to what's sold in the USA...though I am sure you meant that you miss the American Kraft Food French dressing...or the Catalina style which actually is quite easy to make!

It's a basic vinaigrette with ketchup base...you will have to play with it to get the flavor you want.  That or just stock up when you go home as even the US brands here sell a more herby and Tarragon based dressing (probably a bit more French to be honest than Kraft!)

I hope one of these helps you get your fix!

CATALINA DRESSING

3/4 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup ketchup
1/4 cup vinegar
1/4 cup lemon juice
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. dried mustard

Combine all ingredients in a tightly covered jar and shake well.

BLENDER FRENCH DRESSING

1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup salad oil
1/3 cup ketchup
1/4 cup cider vinegar
1 small onion, sliced (1/4 cup)
1 tbsp. lemon juice
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. paprika

Mix all ingredients in blender until smooth and thick. Keep in refrigerator. Similar to Catalina dressing.

RED FRENCH SALAD DRESSING

2 cups ketchup
1 1/2 cups vegetable oil
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 large onion, grated very fine
3 tsp. vinegar
1 tsp. salt

Blend together in blender. Store in refrigerator.

I eat ranch on salad.  And sometimes I use it as a sandwich dressing.

That sounds like DD.  I often say that she likes a little food with her ranch.

oh and all you people just dipping your pizza crust...try dipping even the part that has cheese. I find it works good with pizza that has sausage and lots of veg on it also!!...delicious  ;D
