ok guys!! I'm starting out finally got the motivation i need...
« on: October 21, 2006, 01:08:57 PM »
So i'm starting my journey... of weight loss..

currently 220 lbs.

start date 10-17-06 (started eating correctly) (no soda, water and very low sugared iced tea, and 3 meals a day, with fruit snacks in between... most the meals are pre-packeged meals but which means proportioned, but costly, but oh well! esy for eating at work.)

Start date 10-21-06 (Started exercising)

*so far... 2 mile walk in a little less than an hour.. i'd say 40 minutes* Going out for another walk for another hour, then going to take sarah to work, then walk another hour.. then shower and hit the sack...

don't know where the motivation came from.. but its here and i'm going for it! lol

Best of luck!!!  It's a long, hard road, but with the right support, motivation, and inspiration you can stick with it :D.

good for you!! I started 8 weeks ago, not lost tonnes of weight, but lost a lot of inches. Walking is a brilliant way to start. I do the 10000 steps a day challenge, but trying to up this amount. Just take one day at a time, even small changes make a hugh difference.

exactly how long is 10,000 steps? like miles wise?  The farthest i've gotten is 4 miles.  today was a shorter walk beause i dropped a small dumbell on my foot yesterday (the whole thing equals 20 lbs, but only dropped half on my foot, so 10 lbs onto my foot.. BARE FOOT no less..)
plus i am exsausted from work and seeing my brother off to Ft Hood Tx yesterday... I didn't get in bed on time needless to say. sigh.

so i' still going strong.. and even though my body is acheing i'm going forth.. which is somthing i never thought i''d be able to do
thank you all for the luck!

Vicki--

Don't know exactly how many miles 10,000 steps are...I seem to think that when  I do about 5 miles on the elliptical machine it registers approx. 6,000 steps, but I could be wrong. That takes me 45 minutes. So with a 4 mile walk, plus all of your other steps throughout the day, you are probably not too far from 10,000.

Maybe you should think about getting a pedometer. They are pretty cheap and you could keep it going all day to see how many steps you take. You'll probably be surprised, as the steps really add up, and you may find ways to increase this, even with small changes (i.e. walk to the store instead of drive, take the stairs instead of the elevator, etc.). Here is an article which gives some insight into number of steps and weight loss :

Good luck with everything, sounds like you are doing really well!!

I add my congrats! Just make sure you're drinking lots of water on those walks, even in cold weather! You can get dehydrated just as much in the cold as in the heat!

i can't really drink water while i'm walking though. because i seem to have to pee all the time anyway, i don't want to risk it. i normaly have to stop at 2 miles (at my old job) and go to the bathroom and then again when i get home... im afraid if i drink more while walking i'll have to go even more..
thanks for all the congrats and good wishes guys!! i need it.
i skipped my walk yesterday because well i'm allowed to take one day out of seven off. lol but today its FREEZING out and i don't want to go out in it..like really! but i'm gunna have to since i missed yesterday.

You dont have to do it every day, aim for 4-5 times a week for weight loss. Also on those days i dont feel like it i do Yoga, great for stretching out the muscles and really does tone the body.Barbera Curry has some great home yoga videos that are really suitable for beginners, you can pick them up on ebay!

Yes, congrats! :) I'm on a diet at the moment as well. I've gained so much weight since moving over here. It's time to jump on the determination wagon and get my but into gear. I'm finding this month to be hard though. What with the holidays and all. I'll probably get more into it come January time. Doesn't mean I'm going to stop now, just won't be as strict.

Also, I've found cycling to be very good when it comes to losing the inches on the thighs. I did 10 miles the other week, and to be honest it was a killer. But the next day I felt great. I was so proud and my legs were rock solid. lol Also, we rode through the country side and it was lovely to capture some "proper English" landscape photos to e-mail back home.
