Advice on what to do with a space in house
« on: October 30, 2006, 09:59:16 AM »
Hi all.  Well we are well on our way with getting our house in order to move.

I'm trying to figure out what to do with a space that has held two enormous ugly amps.  The other side has a wood burner that we never use, but is apparently appealing to most people.  Here are some pictures.

(Please note one of the ugly amps is still there, but will be removed soon)

I'd put a little table there with a nice vase of flowers and a pretty picture or mirror above.

are you moving into or out of this house?

if you're moving INTO: i'd install some shelves in the space to make a built in bookcase.

moving out of and just want to fill the space to make it look nice... a large vase on the floor with tall palm stand/reeds...
If you harbour bitterness, happiness will dock elsewhere.

I was also going to suggest either shelves or a large vase of dried flowers.

A nice big plant. Either on a table or if it is big/tall enough in a pot on its own.

My vote is for a nice big potted plant, like a fern that would fill the space.

Small table with tall vase with flower arrangement where the amp is.

Where the wood burner is, make sure all the cords are tucked away.  That wood burner is fabulous.

If you have a little money, you could always tile the back wall of the area to accent it area even more.  I would tile both to make them mirror images of each other.  Or you could put a little table with a mirror over it as well.

Good luck.  Please post pictures when you are done.

Great suggestions everyone!  Thank you so much.  I think we might put a tablecloth over the amp and make that look like a table.  (Husband is having separation anxiety about getting rid of it I think)  I will see about getting a plant for on top of it.

We moved the speaker off the wood burner and the cords are tucked (Great suggestion)

I love the tiling suggestion too.  I'll ask Rich about it.  He loves going to B&Q.  We might even have some tiles left from the bathroom or kitchen.

Does the DH actually use the Amp?  I would say put a time limit on it... if it doesn't get used in 30 days it gets packed away!  I am a bloke, but I have to admit an Amp in the Parlor!  Common!

What do you think?  In the 3 years I have lived with him I have BEGGED to get rid of them. (There is another one) But no, there might be a gig he needs to use it for.  There was one gig that it was used for.  ONE.  He loves music, has about 7 Guitars. (More then my ex who actually played all the time) The second room was set up as a studio where one of our friends recorded two albums in. I got rid of that when I got pregnant.

Yes, it's in the lounge and an eye sore at that.  But we live in England, in a tiny Victorian house.  Where should we put it?
