Honestly, how can you not understand why banks would have a difficult time wanting to lend to you?  You just came to this country and have no credit rating.  Can you imagine trying to get a mortgage in America like that?

I do understand how you feel (we just went through the same thing and I couldn't get on the mortgage, so it was my husband only), but you should understand why.  You are a risk.  You say you are here for good, but if they lend to you and you leave, they can't do anything about it.  You don't have citizenship or even ILR.

Seriously though, if my husband and I break up, we'd have to sell the house because neither of us could afford it on our own.  Whether or not I'm American, British, that has no bearing on our ability to pay, though I do see why I'm a risk.  Yes, the bank can't do anything if I get deported, but as they technically own the house, they'd walk out of it with something.

Anyway, I'm in the exact same boat right now, clearly I should have just jumped on your thread rather than starting my own.  We're getting in touch with different independent mortgage advisors, and will hopefully get some further info this week.  Will share if we get any useful tips.
