Well I'm not sure about today but the last week I've been happy about a few things, so I will consolidate them.

1. Finding more American products. I was able to order isopropyl alcohol from Amazon at an OK price, a Baskin Robbins and Dunkin Donuts AND an Italian bakery opened up on the same street the next town over. Now I can have rainbow sherbert again and the bakery makes cannolis.

2. My nice fellow immigrant co-workers have been really nice to me the last two weeks while being sick. They keep trying to do my work for me and offering to give me rides home. I accepted once and one left mid shift to take me home! I will have to thank them properly when my voice returns ;)
Keepin' it real. Real annoying.

I'm happy that we survived Boston's latest massive snowfall (24"+) without a power outage or any property damage.   I'm also happy that today I finished digging out and it's sunny again today.

Not so happy that we have another 18" of snow forecast from tomorrow through Monday.

I will be happy to leave deep snow behind when we move to the UK later this year.

1.) We're buying a house that's being built right now, that is all eco friendly ,that my other half designed (he works in architecture) and has completley customised to us, including a built in brewery.   We managed to accept an offer on our existing house, exactly 9 days after it went on the market and the guy is letting us close after the house is built (aiming for June) in case of any little niggly issues.  So,  it's all so very exciting and coming together nicely!!

2.)  Planning my own wedding for the end of this year.  Giggle.

So exciting! I dare not tell hubby about the brewery in your new house, because he will want to move in.  ;D

As a Bostonian, I hear you.  But just be warned that although the British Isles rarely have the quantity or severity of New England snow, they make up for it in annoyance.  A couple of cm. in the forecast is an Alert.  Nobody knows how to drive in snow conditions.  The roads will usually get regularly gritted but nobody does anything to the pavements.  The ground rarely freezes hard so what falls on grassy areas turns to mud.  Walking is treacherous.  Relish those clear blue sunny days following a snowfall because you won't see much of that here.

But, yeah, at least there isn't all the shoveling  ;D

Sidewalks aren't cleared where I live (Needham).   Well, some are shoveled, but then turn to ice, so we regularly have weeks of having treacherous walking conditions.   That's the thing I dislike most about winter here, because my wife can't drive, and so she gets cabin fever, which then becomes contagious.

Plus I work remotely for a company based in San Jose CA so no snow days for me, but at least I don't have to commute.

I spent the first 30 years of my life living in England so I know winter can be rather dreary.   That's what beer and sponge pudding is for.

Yeah, that's bad.  Where I lived (Winchester) they would send the sidewalk plow around which would scrape giant snowballs into the driveway that you had just cleared.  It never really got down to the pavement anyway so you got all these lumps that froze and were impossible to walk on.  When I walked to the bus stop to get to work I had to walk in the street and risk getting creamed by cars.  And I won't start on how many times the bus never turned up  >:(

1, Great niece/nephew#2 gender reveal was this morning. Time to start buying pink, ruffly things.  [smiley=smitten.gif] Then again, if she is anything like her mom, it will be all purple and tomboysh. Shelby would spend an hour making sure her hair was just right, and her clothes looked good, then head out the door to play in the mud.

2. Great niece/nephew#3 gender reveal is just a few weeks away. It is going to be fun to have the little ones so close in age.

Sounds like a pleasant week to me.  ;D

1. Flurries all day today, after not getting the snow we were supposed to yesterday.

2. Easy day at work today. I ended up spending a lot of the day reading.

Only one thing, but 'tis a biggie.  After 3 months of complaining and finally filing a grievance against our (ex) health insurer we received a letter last night saying they acknowledge they made an error and services my wife received (totaling nearly $2000 - in itself a fabricated amount) are a covered benefit.  This was obvious all along, but I guess they had hoped we would give in and pay ourselves.   I have already paid the bill to avoid it going to a collections agency and incurring more fees: they gave me a 30% discount with no questions for paying in full - gives some indication of how padded the bill was.

Now we'll see what portion they will cover.  It SHOULD be 100% covered because my wife hit her out of pocket max last year ($5k) due to an ER visit.  We'll also see how easily I get my refund from the provider.   Hopefully that will be my next post on this thread.

Oh, and daughter's UK passport is to be delivered today after a bit of back and forth due to having to have photos countersigned.   That will be one less thing to worry over in our move.

1. We had just enough snow last night to make everything pretty this morning.

2. A bit of quick calculating earlier, and we have figured out that even with the car payment, we should be able to book our flights in the next month or month an a half, although we won't be taking our trip til probably October.

1.  Begin my new job on Monday!  I still can't believe that someone is willing to pay me to spend all day in a library.

2.  Time to start getting ready to move into our new flat next weekend.  Nothing more romantic for Valentine's Day than moving into our first place together.
