i got really confused on this one as well until andrea sorted me out.  as a new HSMP applicant already in the uk (on a work permit) I have to go through a two step process.

step one- apply for HSMP using this form:
http://www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk/6353/11406/HSMP1form.doc
guidance notes: http://www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk/6353/11406/HSMP1guidance.doc
annex c, page 25 shows the salary ranges in particular country = #points

step two- apply for FLR(HSMP) using this form:
(this form is also used for HSMP extensions... hence the confusion)
since HSMP extension people have to prove what they were earning in the last 12 months- and since they were in the UK- there's no need to list out different countries.

guidance notes: http://www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk/6353/11406/FLR(HSMP)guidance.doc

Are you outside the UK at the moment?  If so it's a slightly different process...
apply for HSMP
apply for entry clearance.  since i don't have to do this, i don't know anything about it.
If you harbour bitterness, happiness will dock elsewhere.

Thanks!

I'm in the US right now, so that's where I'm having trouble finding the information I need. Since everything is so new I'm sure more user-friendly guidance will be out soon.

That's the funniest thing I've heard all week!!!

In other words...don't bank on it!

Did I say it would come from the government?  ;) I know they never put things simply.  ::)

Sorry, I meant that someone will probably have figured something out and put it online in layman's terms. At least I hope so!  :-\\\\

Well, the main thing is that it si now IMPOSSIBLE to get the HSMP if you don't have a degree.

Which would have ruled out Richard Branson, Sir Alan Sugar, etc etc.  Crazy!

Meggles, for your planning purposes, they are not going to allow in-country switches to HSMP - or Points - or what-have-you for first time applicants after autumn of next year.  It needs to be done at a British consulate abroad, just like fiances.  That part was first announced last Feb and confirmed last June.

could you please refer me to where this information is posted on the home office/wp website?

Hey guys,

Had not posted in a while and Victoria and her team are representing me in my HSMP case, which I was hoping to apply for in Feb..... It actually looks like it will be easier for me to qualify now if the skill clear website is correct.......  I am based in Dubai, I am 25, and I have a bachelors degree, and make over 27k in pounds....It appears I won't have to go to old employers to get letters and what not.... we'll see.   We'll all get there eventually!

Best Regards,

William

And myself...  Though I have 10+ years experience in my profession, actually have recognition in my industry on a global basis and am amazed now that I am in the UK, that over the past week I have had offers for contracts that far exceeded my planning on moving over.
WARNING My thoughts and comments are entirely my own.  Especially when it comes to immigration and tax advice, I am not a professional.  My advice is to seek out professional advice.  Your mileage may vary!
