But...has anyone ever had experience with rose gold (I like the color- so pretty!) or palladium jewelry?  I'm especially interested in the palladium as it has the look of platinum but is so much cheaper (but still more expensive than gold.)

I'd like to know more about palladium jewelry, too. I did a search on the link you sent, and it seems the same basic engagement ring was only about $500 less, and the wedding bands were like $150 for something that would've been $400. On the bands that's a good deal, but $500 less on the engagement ring doesn't seem like enough of a difference to change.

I'm also curious, do many people get wedding bands that don't match? I mean they'd get the same metal, but perhaps the woman gets a plain band and the man gets something more ornate? My sweetie wanted celtic bands, but in platinum they are $1,400 and up! I would like our bands to match, but that's a lot of cash (it wouldn't seem so bad, but we might have big costs of moving to the UK very soon). I might just tell him I want a plain band but that he should get the celtic one for himself.

Our wedding bands don't match.  They are both platinum but my husband's is a completely different style.  The center is "rugged" for lack of a better term and the outside is polished.  That's a terrible description so I've attached a pic.  It's not a close up but you get the idea.  I think in the end you have to go with what each individual likes after all, they are the ones that have to wear them.

I really like your husband's band. I will recommend that my guy consider something besides a plain band, be it a celtic band or something with a little "flair", for lack of a better word.

DF and I were looking at wedding bands, and ours arent going to "match." The one I like really makes the engagement ring stand out. It's very basic...nothing fancy at all. The one he likes is very similar to the one in JuneHawk's photo.

I agree with go whatever suits the both of you...if you want matching bands, fine.  But if not, do what makes you happy.  DH is content with his very plain gold band - I'm happy having something a little fancier. :)

june your husband and mine have similar bands!

we both have platnium and love them.  My platnium has a lovely aged look after 3 years and i just love it.

i do want to say that what you see in the window or whatever of a jewlery store is NOT what you should pay.  you should always bargain on diamonds.  we got mine for quite a bit less, and the platnium band was thrown in free.  he did quite well on it.  that is one thing i don't like about online ring buying.  also not being able to see quality in person bothered me.

but i did want to say to go with whatever suits you guys!

Can someone tell me, how do you go about getting an appraisal if you buy your ring online?

wouldn't you bring it in to a jewler when you had it in your hands?  Since you need the appraisal for insurance a lot of the time....

I didn't mean so much for insurance, but rather a valuation to make sure the diamond is certified properly and is worth what you're spending on it.

ahh yes, my husband lost his nice expensive platnium one that was engraved and blessed by two different ministers.....on a stag weekend in brataslava

he did get jumped on the street and lost it fending the guy off, but still, i hate the replacement we got him.  it's a cheap substitute.  if only he'd gotten it tightened like i asked him to.  ugh.

I'm actually afraid to get mine tightened too much. Besides the fact that certains of the month I retain water and my fingers swell slightly, my weight fluctuates. I want the ring to still fit if I gain 15 pounds (god forbid)!
