I was thinking about this thread today and thought... "hey, why is this a singleton thing?"
I don't eat any better or worse when I have guests or when it is just me.
My brother is married and he and is wife eat out all the time or they dip in their ready made shelves way more than I ever do. I rarely like going out to restuarants when I have friends or family around and much prefer to throw something together at home.
I do agree with the frustrating point that food can get wasted, but really, with a little planning ahead this can be minimized.
I strongly believe a kitchen stocked with the right ingredients and tools can be just as motivating as having another person to cook for. I am always trying new things... not all successes but I don't complain.

Can you tell I am very happy being single?
