OMG.... DUI looks like it's going to extend our time apart!!!
« on: November 15, 2006, 08:06:32 PM »
My husband went back to the states yesterday as we married through the CoE and he was only on a vistors visa.

HOWEVER, he got a DUI in august... He was only slightly over and the judge said that he had to do a class to regain his license...
Since his return he's been issued with a 12 week class (not the 2 week as issued by the judge) and it costs $600 (not the $200 the other one would cost). :o

I was going to fly out to the states in dec and we were going to apply for the sposal visa in person, we then thought he would be coming back to London with me in Jan....

However, we have been advised not to put in our application until he has finished the DUI course... this wouldn't be until Feb 2007!!  I wouldn't be able to go with him to the NY consular office either as I am a teacher.

Gosh.... I have only been married 4 days and I am distraught that it looks like we will not be together for another 3 months!!  After 4 years together I thought all of this waiting would be over!!

Sorry for the moaning... Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated. ???

Oh dear, hugs! why has he now got to do a 12 week course if the judge ordered a 2 week one? I hope you can sort it out.  It's true they probably won't issue him a spouse visa until this is out of the way, you can see why or everyone with an outstanding penalty of some sort would skip the country.

Not too sure, but it's the driving license people that issued it... Only thing I can think of is they get more from that course.  He's realised that they don't have as many 2 week classes.  He's trying to find out about appealing it, but it would just delay the DUI class starting (as they don't allow you to start the class and appeal >:( )with no garentee that it could be changed.

Oh best to bite the bullet and get it over with then.  If he gets his license back at the end of it that will make things a lot easier if he wants to drive over here anyway.  Hopefully he'll think twice in future!!  ;)  Are you going over there for Xmas?

Yea, but the prices are so high.... looks like I am going to fly Christmas day with our son. :(

Only good thing is that I will land at 2pm in the afternoon, so he will still get to have dinner etc with the in-laws.
