Help! Applying for spouse visa - does consulate need originals??
« on: November 23, 2006, 01:04:10 PM »
I'll be applying for my spouse visa soon (by mail) and wondered if the Consulate needs originals of the support letter from my hubby, mortgage paperwork, letter from my hubby's employer, etc.?? I'm planning on going out to England for good January 12th - and as we all know, the mail will be quite slow around the holidays. Will the Consulate accept scanned or faxed copies of these documents, or will they only accept originals?

I'm pretty sure that they need to be originals or certified copies of the originals - hard paper copies either way.

They need originals, yes.  Or certified copies, at the least.

We have often been forced to use FedEx overnight service. It has always worked for us. It costs about £35.

They are getting touchy about these things.  Each station is starting to work with a document verification department and it would be just easier and raise less questions with original documents (or certified copies).

Obviously there is no getting out of it for your hubby's passport, it has to be an original or certified copy.

FedEx sounds like a fair solution.  I would avoid ParcelForce personally.

I would strongly recommend ONLY using a reliable courier service (FedEx, DHL etc)...I have heard too many scare stories of people having tickets booked etc but sitting waiting for the post office to deliver.
