Jury Duty
« on: February 09, 2004, 06:06:51 PM »
I have just spoken to my Mom (all my US mail is forwarded to her) and guess what folks.....I have been called to Jury Duty :o Now I have lived here (Gloucester) for three years and frankly, I'm not quite sure what to do. Has this happened to anyone else? Any information will be appreciated.

It has happened to me three times in a year!  :o

The first time it happend my mother sent it to me. I filled out a form in the jurty duty notice which was suposed to get me off their list. When I sent it back I had to include some proof that I was no longer in the state/country. So I sent a copy of my marriage certificate, bills with my name on them for our UK address, and I think a copy of my NHS card with a letter explaining where I live and why.

Now I should have been taken off the list, but obviously haven't  ::) I haven't recieved anything about skipping jury duty so who knows what is going on.  ???

There's usually a questionnaire that accompanies the summons for jury duty. Have your mother fill it out and send it back stating that you're currently residing in the U.K. That SHOULD be acceptable but keep in mind that you may have to write a small letter to the jury commission explaining just that if they want further confirmation. It's not really a biggy, but most states summons every 3 years for jury duty.

Thank you all so much! I could just imagine the Chief of Police from Bonneville County (Idaho) showing up at my door with a summons. I'm one of those horrid people that was never absent or tardy in school (class of '76) and thought this was my chance to break away ;)

Well thats the thing..........if someone does'nt notify them that's probably exactly what would happen.

I got summoned last year, my mom just checked the 'cannot make it' box and I haven't heard a thing since.
There are two things in life for which we are never truly prepared:  twins.
