Outside of the historical Commonwealth Countries and the EU Agreements, while there are no concessions for the US, I would say they tend to be a little less stringent with Americans then a lot of other countries.  American expatriates hopefully represent some of the best economic contributions to the UK and encourage those in power to realize that immigration is a very positive thing for Britain today.

That is certainly true.  For visa which everyone has the potential to qualify for, such as spousal visas, it is much easier for Americans than many other nationals, including those from some Commonwealth countries.

And just for the sake of completeness.  Ghurkas (who are Nepalese, which is not Commonwealth) have an inside track for citizenship if they have done 5+ years in Crown Service - viz. the army.

And last month, ECO's in China received instructions to grant entry clearances outside of the rules to certain Chinese nationals.

Those, and the unspoken policy of going easy on applicants of Anglo-Saxon heritage, are the only ones I know about.

It was in an AECIP issued in October.

Chinese graduate students, medical personnel, scientific personnel and etc are to be cleared for entry outside the rules.  ECOs thus instructed and that's that.

It has to do with a bigger picture expression that we are making towards China.  *Personally*, I think it's because we need an entree into China's telecom market and we are looking around for negotiating chips.  In that light, this is an elegant piece of diplomacy.  That's why I didn't crucify it at Transpondia, otherwise I'd be upset.  BUT that's a personal view only.

I can root around and find the AECIP if you need it.  But since it's not 'official', we'll have to take it to PM...

Upon reflection, of course if there's some dual Chinese/Americans out there who want to settle in the UK, this is your golden moment.

Well, thanks for all your help everyone on here.  I guess i'm stuck in America for now, unless any of you know any English ladies who would like a husband. ;)

I'd be grateful if you could.  Though I thought you were supposed to be on holiday this week...
