I don't have a recipe as such, but these are the ingredients I use, and then I just add as I feel necessary:

Red wine...not too dry, quite deep, not too expensive, Italian cooking plonk
Port - big glug
Honey or sugar

Put all these in a saucepan and simmer.  Add cloves (whole, not crushed), ginger, a cinnamon stick, orange peel and nutmeg and simmer until the spices have fused with the wine.  Add more sugar/honey and drink!

At my son's football game on Sunday, some of the parents had a thermous full!  Yummy.

They just bought the pre-bottled stuff.  It was quite tasty.

Vicky, that sounds phenomenal!!

I've never made my own, but haven't tried the pre-bottled stuff, either. I have some mulling mix that someone gave me. That gets put in with the red wine and port and it is delicious!

I have had it with brandy instead of port and orange juice instead of just peel...it was all lush.

The best part of Christmas is getting sloshed in front of the fire on mulled wine!

I'm tempted to go to M&S and spend £35 worth of food just to get their free bottle of mulled wine. :)

I don't even like red wine but something about the Christmas feeling makes it good.

I got a nice bottle of port and a bottle of fruity spanish wine today.  Got everything else you mentioned EXCEPT the damn cinnamon sticks, which M & S didnt have.  I was gonna make it tonight, but then realized it wouldnt be to smart since I have a 2nd job interview tomorrow!!

Friday night=mulled wine!!!  Then I can get the sticks at Fresh & Wild tomorrow!   ;D

I've just remembered that the pub i'm going to tonight have started to sell it...yum yum!

Don't use too much port, just a glug.  I recommend drinking the rest with some nice stilton!

 ;D

Tesco has some on sale for 2.99 right now.  I bought a bottle and proceeded to drink all of it in one night!  I'm not really a heavy drinker either... it was nice. :D  I'm sure the home made stuff is even better.  But I am definitely sold on the mulled wine. :)

For those of us in Leeds, the German Market has really nice gluhwein.

My friend and I were shopping and the owner at this little shop offered us some mulled wine. Alcohol and shopping together...it doesn't get any better!!!  ;D
