i have TMJ.

i've been using flexeril, a muscle relaxer, for a couple years, as prescribed by my specialist in the states.

my specialist in the uk says he doesn't think that drug is available here, so he gave me amitryptaline instead. this is not the same thing. frankly, i'm afraid to use it.

how can i find out if there is an equivalent of amitryptaline in the uk? my gp is useless--totally unfamiliar with my disease & not interested in helping at all.

so your GP won't tell you if flexeril is available in the UK.  have you tried seeing another Gp at the surgery?  perhaps bringing the generic name or active ingredient list of flexeril would be helpful to this new gp.

my other suggestion was to see your specialist- but i'm really surprised your specialist doesn't know if it's available or not.

good luck with finding what you need.  worse comes to worse you can get a US dr to percribe and get it filled at a US online pharmacy, and sent here.  is this something you take daily or just with flareups?

I'm confused. Are you looking for a replacement for Flexeril or for Amitryptaline?

The generic name for Flexeril is cyclobenzaprine hydrochloride (so says webmd.com). So maybe you could ask your specialist if that's prescribed in the UK? It may be that it has a completely different name here.

it's become a daily thing. along with celebrex.

i guess this is the point in my life when the 'chronic, degenerative' aspect of TMJ becomes apparent.  :-\\\\
