That is just sad.  Please Britney, just let your career RIP.  Live off your millions for the rest of your life, enjoy your kids.  don't try to go back.  Please! 

I agree with you.  I watched the VMAs for the first time in years.  I was never a Brittany fan, but I was hoping that she would pull it together.  She looked like she didn't want to be there and I think I could have danced better.  I thought she looked pretty good for having two kids.  I wish my body looked like that.  The problem is she came out doing the same old sh*t.  Her idol Madonna is always changing her look and sound.  I think if she had done something completely different she could revive her career.  It's dead I believe.  She is just a one trick pony.

I was listening to the radio on my way to work, and they said that someone had insulted britney's kids right before she went on stage, calling them the "cutest mistakes"

That was actually a joke Sarah Silverman made after Britney's performance, so I doubt that's to blame.  Honestly, I think it was a combination of three things:

1. She couldn't walk in her boots (every girl knows you gotta practice in stilettos!)

2. She's not the workhorse she once was; a few hours of rehearsal won't cut it

3. Nerves.  I think Akon hit it on the head: "She seemed nervous ... you could tell by the expression on her face. Instead of just blocking everybody out and doing her thing, you could tell she was thinking about it."

I don't think her performance was the train wreck the media described it to be but I was saying WTF after she came on. She looked so out of it and really looked like she didn't want to be there. Her career won't be what it was in her prime, I kind of feel bad for her. But not that bad. 

Her rusty moneymaker wasn't ready for a comeback it seems. I'm still waiting for my body to come back after my first - I wished I looked like she does now!

It's really not fair that they call her out of shape when she's in better shape than most people could dream of being in, but if she's going to come out in essentially nothing but bra and panties and stumble around the stage, she's gonna get picked apart for everything, fair or not. And the problem is she's being compared to herself at 16 or 17, when she had a body that I swear looked like someone made her in a factory, it was just too perfect. She built her career firmly on the foundation of her being sexy and wearing skimpy outfits. She made the ground rules, and now she's being judged by them. Not nice, but not a surprise, either.

The AP called her "paunchy".  Other media and bloggers flat-out called her "fat."    Those fat comments by my colleagues in the press were totally uncalled for. You can judge her on the merits of her performance, but to criticize her body was a low blow. No wonder so many young women are feeling pressured to starve themselves...

Dude, I hear ya that she is attractive, and that it's uncalled for when the press calls her names. But she is the one who sexualized herself and built her career on being unbelievably hot and dressing in skintight, skimpy clothes -- a career she wouldn't have had if she weren't smoking hot. I wish society didn't make stars out of people mainly for being hot, but it does, and good ole Britney was just one more media image that got so much adoration that lots of "regular" women felt like trolls in comparison. She's being judged by the standards she set, and girlfriend shoulda seen it coming ... though at this point I'm not sure she'd see a freight train coming down the tracks, as she seems very out of it. I can't help feeling sorry for her though, as she seems really out of it (drugs? mental issues? a little of both?)
