need advice please!!
« on: December 07, 2006, 10:57:48 PM »
hi to all!
im new to this site , so ill tell you our story and see if any of you good people could give me some advice.

i am engaged to a us citizen our plans where for us to go  to the us with our 2 kids but our youngest son is disabled and needs a lot of medical care, so we have thought about  him coming to the uk, however when he first came to the uk he was only allowed in for 2 weeks but due to me being ill with ourfirst baby and then our second son being very ill he stayed,  he contacted immigration and told them that he was here illegally and had decided to go home, he left  (wasnt removed), so my question is ... how hard do you think it will be for us to get him a fiance visa to come back here? any advice would be great . thanks in advance

yes he did... i have contacted one of the professional visa consultants and they have said that they dont hink it would be a problembut want a lot of payment to help us. i was hoping there would be a way we  could do this on our own, as i think it would be a lot of money to spend if he was denied

The attorneys will take loads of money from you and DELAY the process. The process of application for fiance visa for americans is very fast- 2 week  turn around to get the visa after mailing it in with payment which is about 5- 600 dollars best i can recall,  and if for some reason  you are turned down  thats all that you are out- but once  you start with immigration attorney you can bet you are gonna be missing alot more money than that! I would suggest you call your local MP and talk with him about what has happended and get his advice- They do have experience helping people with immigration issues. We talked extensively with our MP and he was extremely helpful to us... Good luck!

I wouldn't classify all immigration solicitors or counselors in that fashion.  The biggest thing, especially in the UK, is to make sure they are UK based and that they are OISC registered.  That gives you an opportunity and venue to complain if you feel your are getting ripped off.  I would check out http://www.oisc.gov.uk/.  Any adviser should be listed in the registry.  I would say generally on this board you are going to get honest upfront advice if you should seek a professional.
WARNING My thoughts and comments are entirely my own.  Especially when it comes to immigration and tax advice, I am not a professional.  My advice is to seek out professional advice.  Your mileage may vary!

Utter nonsense.

Taco_mel...this application is a lot trickier than a straight forward fiancee visa application, and I utterly resent the implication that all immigration specialists are useless.  Maybe you had a bad experience...well, many people don't, and you shouldn't put people off getting assistance where they need it.

Nikkia - I am an immigration specialist, and you can find me listed on the government website quoted by kitson.  if you would like me to assess your chances I would be happy to do so, just send me a PM or an e-mail.  I am happy to give advice on your application.
