Timeline for Selling house
« on: December 08, 2006, 09:15:12 PM »
Hi, just a question for all the home owners out there.  Whether or not you are first time buyers or second, third, etc.

Just curious how long the process took for all of you.  Was it slow?  Fast?  Was there a turning point in the process that everything just started to move?  If it went slow what did you do to speed things up?
Thank you ;D

Both times we started the process around Thanksgiving and moved in early February.

We had no chain either time though.  Should have mentioned that.

Good to know.  Either would we ;D

How long after the survey of the house did you move?  If you know that is.

No worries, thank you ;D

For some reason I have it in my head that after the survey everything kicks off, but I could be wrong.

We had our offer accepted on a house on August 31st and we just moved in yesterday. There was no chain. Things did seem to start rolling a bit quicker once the survey was done. We also had two little glitches that held up the process by a couple of weeks.

Good luck!

We've not sold a house here.  But in buying, we started the process Nov '04 and we started moving in Feb '05.  So many variables can affect it -- is there a chain?, the buyer, the seller, the financing, the solicitors involved, the survey & are there things to be surveyed more in depth or haggled over, etc.  I was on the phone with our solicitor a lot to keep things moving along.  The seller and/or their solicitor appeared to drag their feet a bit with respect to getting documentation to us, and then (of course) not wanting to drop the price for immediate roofing & electrical repairs that were needed.  I love our house but the previous owner really believed in fixing things up on a DIY shoestring in a way that 'looks' nice but isn't very practical/maintainable for the duration. :P

Thank you Carolyn!  I'm being vague because I don't want to jinx anything  ;D (Just so anyone wondering why I am asking)
It seems like most people took about 3 months start to finish.  I'm hoping it's quicker for us ;)

In 2004, our house went on the market the end of April and we completed the first week of September.

Originally, we had two offers after it was on the market a week.  The chain fell apart below us so it had to go back on the market in June.

After a week, we had another two offers and went with the people who appeared in a better position. However, it still dragged on because they really struggled with their financing.  It came together in the end.

Listing to completion was five months.
