The lady we bought our house from had it on the market quite awhile.  I think it was first listed sometime maybe July/August '04, we made an offer in Nov, and everything was finally completed in Feb.
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in...

Stacey,

We haven't been sellers in the UK, but we bought our house here this summer. We had our offer accepted on July 4 and we took possession on the 21st of August. The whole thing took less than two months for us. Everyone prepared us for a much longer wait, and we were on pins and needles almost to the end, but everything went smoothly. We had a mortgage guy who was really on the ball, and the inspection was pretty straightforward. We kind of breathed down the lawyer's back a bit, just to make sure he hadn't forgotten us, and that may have kept things moving at a brisk pace.

I hope you have the same good fortune!

anythings possible.  i put an offer in on the house 4-Sep-05, moved in 6-Oct-05.  i was on top of everyone all the time.  the survey wasn't really the turning point to be honest... it was the getting of the mortgage that put the train into superspeed for our process.

also, no chain, finances mostly in place, etc...

We haven't sold here but we bought our house September 20, 2003.  Our offer was accepted during the one of the Wimbledon weeks.  I remember because we were on top of the shuttle bus from Shortlands going into the tennis grounds when they accepted!  So last week June/first week of July so about 3 months in total.

I just pulled out the survey papers and the guy sent us the post-survey details letter on August 6, 2003 so it was 6 1/2 - 7 weeks from the survey to moving in.

We had no chain on our end but I think the sellers did.  We moved about 500 yards down the road from our rented house and the sellers moved into their new house about 500 yards the other way down the road!
And the world first spoke to me in Sensurround

Thanks all.  I appreciate all your input.  Things are really moving along for us, so cross fingers.
