A lot of Americans I know think this sounds different and don't want to try it, but when I make it, I always get resoundingly positive responses.  It is always a hit and it's super-easy

Cook a bottle of sauerkraut with chopped potatoes, caraway seeds, salt and pepper to taste and plop a pork roast in the middle of it all.  You don't need to add any water, there's plenty from the sauerkraut, and it tenderizes the meat in such a good way!!  Trust me, it's the best way to make a pork roast.

Many Americans don't want to try it b/c they think they don't like sauerkraut, I just tell them that they don't have to eat the sauerkraut if they don't want to, but surprisingly they usually end up loving that too.  I just don't think most people have tried sauerkraut with the right recipes.

That's me with the sauerkraut.  I have never liked it, but your way sounds so yummy.  I'll have to give it a go, DH loves it anyway so even if i don't like the kraut itself, it will still get eaten.

There are so many great ideas here, i can't say thank you enough to everyone!!  I'm so tired of the same three meals it's not funny.

and you can do what i do, call home about 3 times during the day to be sure the answering machine is still working-if so, it's not burned up yet!

No but I'm sure if you did a search, you'd come up with a recipe.

It was the most moist cake - just lovely.

My mom made some brownies once that had spinach in them in an attempt to get my nephew to actually ingest a vegatable.  They were really good and you couldn't taste the spinach.  I imagine the cake with kraut would be similar.

I have been really inspired by this thread and I am definitely going to get a crock pot. I always thought it would be too much for just the 2 of us, but we love left overs for lunch, so I think it will be perfect. Also, I found some healthy recipes online that sound amazing.
Any suggestions on brand/type?

Not sure as far as brand to suggest because i can't remember what brand i have, but we have a sort of oval shaped one that is really nice.  I would suggest getting a bigger one than you think you might need because then you can do whole chickens or larger roasts in them.
