The Curse of the Sandwich maker...
« on: January 01, 2007, 06:55:02 PM »
A few years ago, someone gave me a sandwich maker.  I promptly took it back to the shop.

Someone just gave me another one.... but no receipt this time.  Gah!

So, if I have to have one of these, anyone have any amazing ideas for using it?

Hmm.. perhaps an idea...

We'll usually make sandwiches twice a year.  Not enough to justify having this big machine.  Ideas, please!

Or this machine goes straight to the dumpster.

Box it back up, re-wrap it, and pass it onto someone else next time you need to give a gift.  ;D

I believe that's how we ended up with this one.  But hey, somebody must like them and use them for... something?

I have a George Foreman Grill which I also use as a sandwich maker when needed (maybe once a year?). But I'm not sure I'd ever need an additional appliance specifically for doing sandwiches.

Why would anyone need a sandwich maker?  ??? They aren't exactly the most complicated thing to make.

are you talking about a toasted sandwich maker?

If so... it makes wicked toasties!   Cheese or cheese & ham, peanut butter/banana/brown sugar, pizza sandwiches, french toast...   ;)

Of course no one really NEEDS one of these, but they're handy to have sometimes.

Pebbles, please send me your address.  If it doesn't suffer the same fate as the Secret Santa gift I sent, it can be yours!

Is it the kind of sandwich maker that just toasts the bread, or is it the kind that has triangle shapes for the bread to sit in, and then it seals the edges together, and cuts the bread into triangle shapes. If it's THAT one, then there are loads of things to do with it. I used to use mine for baking, it did YUMMY corn bread muffin things, and sometimes I would put half a hot dog in, for a corn dog. Also I did pancakes, cookies, muffins of any sort.......hubs used to like when I did scrambled egg and  cheese sandwiches in it.
You can also fry eggs or do omelettes in it.

I still have the old Breville one that my parents gave me when I first went to uni, although I haven't used it in years. I keep it in the cupboard thinking it will come in handy one day.  Cheese and spinach with lots of black pepper were my favourite.  I never thought to use it for baking though!
