Is it expensive to live in Chester?

I know London is absolutely out of the question because I’ve heard it’s far too expensive but I think Chester is quite a nice city, is housing expensive there?

Hi Laura, I've no idea about the cost of housing in Chester but you might be able to get an idea here:

Hi --
I think you will find Chester is a lot more affordable than London or anyplace in Southern England. It is a lovely place but is a bit high priced for the Northwest..smaller towns near it are even more affordable.

Hi!

I used to work in Chester on an IT contract in 1998 and it is a really nice place. To me, Chester is not expensive as such, but you need to gauge your realistic levels of income compared to the things you want and then check to see if Chester offer's those elements within your income/wants.

Plus points I found were very very friendly people, close proximity to Liverpool & Manchester, very scenic nearby, all the history of it being a Walled Roman City (I think!) great little shops, lots of pubs (like all of the UK really!)

Minus points - not so much opportunity, you can drive through it in 5 minutes so a little small, everyone seems to know everyone (not such a bad thing) and everyone knew me within a few days as I was one of the very few brown people around! - leading from that, I got stopped twice by the cops as they'd never talked to a brown guy before! and positive to that is that I had a little limelight in the Pubs when chatting to the ladies!

overall though, I think you'll mainly hear very complimentary things about Chester, some friends went to the law school/academy (or whatever it is!) there who also remember it fondly!

Cheers! DtM! West London & Slough UK!
