I haven't bought Quorn mince yet... not being all that sure about what it is... but it sounds like it'll do well in chili and lasagna.  Correct?

I've had a craving for a veggie hot dog for a long time.  (It was too rainy in Vancouver so the stands were closed..)  Anyone seen those?

And yes, I guess a hotdog craving is weird for vegetarian types.  It's probably a saurkraut/mustard/ketchup combo type craving.  With jalapenos.

I try to eat vegie a few times a week but dh loves his meat. Somehow he's come to accept (though I wouldn't say "love" or "crave") Quorn mince. We had spag bol with it last night. Just don't fry it too long - it burns quite easily.

Madeira, you can buy the veggie hotdogs sausages easily enough at most supermarkets or health food shops but as for buying an actual made up hotdog in a bun with sauce etc ... good luck finding that. Not sure what area you are in but when we lived in Islington there was a guy in Chapel Market with a sausage stall, he'd cook you up your choice of sausage in a bun with sauce, and he always had 2 or 3 veggie choices ... not quite a hot dog but close.

No, just looking for the 'dog' part... but the sausages I've seen don't look the same.

With all the stuff I put on them, though... even sawdust-dogs should taste fine.

I just saw veg hot dogs and veg sausages in Fresh and Wild yesterday.  But they didn't even have the mince!!  I am going to Waitrose today, will report back after that...

Excellent!  Another reason to visit IKEA!

For the person who couldn't find tofu.. or for anyone new to the UK, there isn't much available in big supermarkets, and it's in weird places.  It's in the frozen meat section of our local Sainsburys and Tesco.  The aisle signs don't help to find it.

The tofu is often sold out, too.

Anyone ever seen Fantastic Food's veggie chili mix?  Or any of their products here?

On another note, I'm usually a pescatarian/veggie but I'm not very happy with the quality and variety of fish here.  The fish market is good, but it's a bit far.  Sainsburys 'fresh' fish department is disgusto.  They let the fish turn green in the case... but hey, the last few bags of veggies were already compost when I got them home.

(Maybe just a bad store.)

I ran into the new Asda on my high street this afternoon and found cornmeal. The third person I asked very happily took me to the tofu, but it was that cubed stuff, not the silky block I am used to. I am going to have to hunt down an (oriental) asian market I guess. I never thought of tofu as exotic..... :-\\\\

I think it's weird, too.  North America isn't really known as a vegetarian paradise...

but maybe it should be.

Yeah you're not going to see the big block of tofu in the high street grocery stores.

I got two types of veg mince today at Asda though!  I was very pleased with the different meat substitutes they had there.  Loads of different types.  Also lots of different brands which I like.  Courtney I will try your chorizo this week I think...

Oh cool! Let me know how it goes. I put off making the stew since my beans went off but am planning on trying it later this month. In the meantime I will keep looking for tofu.

Yeah an Asian shop is your best bet. I used to get a huge slab at the Asian shop in Canterbury for about 80p.
