what food/drink can you not do without?
« on: January 14, 2007, 10:31:58 PM »
My weight is, sadly, creeping back up again so I'm aiming for a low GI lifestyle starting tomorrow. That said, I believe in a treat now and then. My primary problems are lack of exercise and portion control rather than eating complete rubbish all the time. Nevertheless, I've indulged a bit too much lately!!

One thing I'm finding really hard to break is Coke. I just love it and can't abide the diet stuff.

But if I had to choose something I couldn't live without, it would have to be cheese.

How about you?
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I'm trying to lose the post-baby weight as well and my biggest hurdle is tea.  I drink it all day long, cup after cup, with milk and sugar in each one.  I've cut down the amount of sugar i put in each one, but it's hard to cut down the number of cups i drink.

Food-wise i guess it'd be pasta.  Carbs galore, not the best way to lose weight, but i eat noodles almost every-day, just love them   :-\\\\

I have to agree coke, bread and most carbs are my downfall too. I've lost 2 stone in the last year but it's starting to creep on me as well. Tomorrow I start Tesco Diets so it should help.

Oh and CHEESE!!!!!!!!! I love the stuff

I think I'd say cheese too, but I've gone without it now for five days which is huge for me! My goal is to go a month!

I'm very boring.  Sparkling water and coffee.  Everything else, I could adapt.

Check out Paul McKenna's book - he has a way to break habits/addictions. I had an addiction to diet coke and I went cold turkey after new year's. It was really hard for the first 10days. Only recently have I stopped craving it. I even had a bottle over the weekend and it wasn't as good as it was before. It has saved me 3 pounds a week at the grocery store, my main reason for quitting it. It costs so much here!! So, it used to be diet coke, but now I'd have to say toast, bread, carbs. I eat them in proportion, so it's not my main diet, but I like to have toast or a sandwich if I want to.

Like so many of the rest of you - Coke, bread/pasta, and cheese. :D  Though I have cut waaaay down on the cheese since moving here and leaving my favorite cheese back in the States. :)

Foodwise, it's definitely pasta.  I absolutely love the stuff, and soaking up the sauce with bread.  Hmmmm... well, at least this isn't a post about table manners.

As far as drinks go, coke when I'm here, and mountain dew in the states.  Dh just said to me last night that I was a caffeine addict, which I'll never deny!  Just don't try and take it away from me!   :P

I can't live without Diet Coke.  I've tried.  Although I do prefer Diet Pepsi to Diet Coke in the UK.  Chocolate would be my other essential food.

Have you tried converting slowly?  Mixing some diet into regular and gradually increasing the amount? (assuming you want to switch to diet)  :)

Unfortunately, I don't do well with artificial sweeteners so any 'diet' food with artificial sweetener in it is a no-go.
