I went to Las Vegas last april with my Best Friend We saw Barry Manilow in concert! if you like him & can afford his show I would highly recommend seeing his show.  ;D I was amazed what a great show he put on. I was a somewhat of fan of his before the show I appreciate his music so much more now that I have seen him live in concert.  [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

Perhaps it's because I lived near Vegas for many years, but I'm not sure I could come up w/enough to do to fill up 4 days!

There are some fantastic shows in Vegas.  Personally I'd love to go see Cirque de Soleil or the Blue Man Group, but there's really something for everyone.

Lots of opportunities for 'people watching' on the Strip.

Lots of shopping....the exchange rate definitely makes buying things in the states attractive at the moment.  There are a couple of large factory outlet malls close to the strip.  You can probably get a free shuttle from whatever hotel you're staying at.  Also many of the casinos offer a fair variety of shops.  Don't know if there's still an FAO Schwartz at Caesar's Palace, but that was one of my favourite places to shop.

Many of the casinos are trying to broaden their appeal, so they have more to offer than just gambling.  Some have amusement parks, many put on their own little 'shows' (Treasure Island has a pirate show, the Bellagio has the dancing fountains).  Seems like the Mandalin Bay has an aquarium, the MGM has lions...can't remember who has the dolphins.  I think there's a Coca Cola Factory and an M&M's Factory on the strip...or at least there used to be.  TBH, it's been several years since I ventured into that part of town!

Lots of good eats.  It's generally pretty cheap to eat at the casinos, but there are some other nice places in the area.  If you like Mexican, I quite enjoyed Cozumels (sp?) just off the strip.

Hope you have a nice visit!

Lucky you!
I love Las Vegas, and have been at least 20 times, but have never seen a show!  I go for the gambling and the 24-hour booze and the breakfast buffet.  ;D

Lucky you, indeed!! Vegas rocks!!!

I agree with crabbit about Cirque. It's a must-see. Also, the shopping at Caesar's Palace is to die for. The last time I was there, the FAO Schwartz still existed, but it's been a few years.

MGM still has lions, as far as I know -- they're Siegfried & Roy's lions and it's called Siegfried & Roy's Secret Garden, or something like that. I think, but am not sure, that the dolphins are in the same place.

Hate to tell you, crabbit, but a friend told me that Treasure Island no longer does that fabulous pirate show. That was always a favourite of mine.

For food, have the Sunday brunch buffet at Paris. It's soooo good. A bit pricier than some of the other places, but the food is far less vile than somewhere like Circus Circus.

I may be a bit more fond of cheesiness than most, but I avoid the big name shows. If I were you, I'd look for an Elvis impersonator doing a free show (two drink minumum) on a small stage! That's the Vegas I like!!

But the very best thing in the world that you'll ever see is a performance by Cook E. Jarr. I'm not sure where he's booked at the moment, but he's a local favourite. He has sort of a weird cult following among some celebs, so the star-spotting at his shows is always fun. Plus, he's as cheesy as they come and absoloutely profane. I love him!!

Check out the Las Vegas Review-Journal for what's on where. And have fun!!

I loved the Valley of Fire park.  It rained a bit before we got there, and there were tons of very strange flowers and plants.  One looked like orange spaghetti... if anyone knows what it was, do tell!  The Hoover Dam was impressive, too.

Great Japanese food in the basement of the Flamingo... can't remember the name of the restaurant.

DH recommends Penn and Teller's show (as do I) but we are a bit biased of course.  If you want to see a less expensive magic show, see Mac King.  He is HILARIOUS...

Benihana?

The pirate show still exists, but it was made "sexy". Treasure Island is now "T.I." (with a thick layer of sleeze).

I am a Vegas Native, and there was a thread on UK-Y which I wrote a ton on, it will come up in search :). I will add that for the money, the best hotels are the Wynn (simply amazing, about 175 pounds a night), Green Valley Ranch (resort off strip, but a quick trip, very nice area, and on Green Valley Parkway, my childhood street. President Clinton always stays there). Or uber cheap for a safe, clean and decent close and very easy to strip (10 min) casino (can't remember the price it is either 19.95 USD or 24.95 USD per night, completely ensuite, close to malls/shops, and even a view, Fiesta Green Valley.

Good luck, and check out that other thread.  8)

Let's take our wigs off in the shopi aisle and fight it out.
