I havent had a complmentary cocktail on a long haul flight in years. I think most airlines stopped that about four or five years ago.

Actually, when I flew BA last spring, there was free wine!

I just flew American in Nov. and I will *try* not to use them again.  Lots of delays, rude staff, bad food.  I definitely could have used some free drinks on that one!  ;)

We got free drinks on BA when we flew with them in Nov. Even Cassie was getting tiny bottles of Baileys...and she got wine with her dinner...she said she felt really grown up...at 18.... ::)

I flew Ryanair in October and there weren't any free drinks, but that was just from B'ham to Dublin, so not an issue. I would be livid if I was on a longhaul flight with no free drinks.

Mattj74, so even the BA part was no free drinks?
Tristessa, I think I was a little unclear.  The Aer Lingus flight was only from London to Dublin.  I was just going to Ireland for a few days so, of course, no drinks and no food for that matter as it was only a 1 hour flight.

I noticed something about Aer Lingus not giving out any free drinks when I was booking a completely separate flight from Heathrow to Baltimore on BA.  For some reason they mentioned on the BA site that any flights on Aer Lingus won't have free drinks - I guess they must be a partner to Aer Lingus?  Fortunately, our flight is direct from Heathrow to Baltimore on BA.  Unfortunately, it's on BA which is planning strike action!  So far any planned strikes are before we go but if it spills over to the day we go I'll be really pissed off.

I don't know about free cocktails, but BA & Air France (and probably some other European carriers on longhaul flights) give free beer, wine, vodka, etc in economy.  At least it has been that way on the last few flights I've done.

When I checked in for my flight in Edinburgh, they told me that Aer Lingus had pulled out of all partnerships w/any airlines.  Maybe they used to partner w/BA?

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.

I hope it doesn't go longer than they think, that would be such a hassle!

Ahh here it is, they're both part of the One World Alliance:  http://www.oneworld.com/
I knew American Airlines was in there.  Cathay Pacific, Quantas, Finnair, Iberia and Lan(?) round out the 8 airlines.

Free drinks on Ryanair?  That's like asking for champagne at a Mississippi barn dance!

It looks like they're still there, but won't be for long.  They're leaving the alliance effective 1 April...

Not only was it not an issue, but it was never even a remote possibility with RyanAir!  :)

I have flown Aer Lingus a number of times. Mostly recently from Dublin to Rome. I would check out the use of DVD players because I know they do not let you use CD players. Most of the times I fly home I use Dublin because it is normally cheaper than Belfast.

I'll have to check and see what they allow and hope it doesn't change by November when we're flying  :-\\\\  I checked prices again and 4 one way tickets were only $900!!  no way i can find anything else that cheap so i hope it works that we can fly with them.

Wow my Dh & I always use American Airlines when we fly home. we usually only have had a few problems with delays from American Airlines but thats because of the weather though. the Staff are always friendly, we dont drink alcohol when we fly so were ok with the soda, water, or juice they provide free. the food is ok what do you expect its airplane food, I have had worse airplane food than American Airlines food.
