In the sentence above, substitute mold for mood!
Ahhhh, that makes more sense.

I put a scarf over my face and went in there and investigated (and emptied the water thingy). It's drying out well - the air feels like San Diego air. Dry with a hint of something exposed to rot that is now dried out. A few more days and it should be fit for them to come in and take care of the rest of the problem.
Was able to get my hair dryer out of the cardboard box and lay it to also be dried out. The box is sopping. The hair dryer will dry and be OK, I think, as long as it's totally dry before I use it next.
Also was able to see that there is apparently a concrete wall around the tub area, so it's highly probable that water has NOT seeped out under the floorboards of the hall or the Daughter's room. It had ponded and started to come over the edge of that retaining wall that was much lower than the other 3 sides, where it was puddling on our bathroom floor. I am thinking that all that will dry as moisture will be wicked out of the grout (etc) as the dehumidifier dries the exposed surfaces. I think downstairs is going to have a worse time, as it will have soaked the plaster in their ceiling! But there is definitely black mold on some of the wood that is bracing the bathtub, and that needs to be addressed. Sealing it back up under the tub surround (when they come in to replace it) is not going to be sufficient. It will just go on to colonize all the wood under there and become a more serious health hazard.
I can be forceful as needed, and this is needed. Plus, we are now on a month-to-month and if they will not fix it, we will move house. I am not living anywhere that is a hazard to my or my Daughter's health. But I really do believe they will do the right thing and fix it.
