Jimbo,
They make lenses specifically for leaving in all the time. It's a different substance than what your lenses are made from, they allow a LOT more oxygen through.

You shouldn't leave lenses in that aren't made to do that though.

These are for 30 days of continuous wear.

Yup.  Those are the ones I use.  I don't think I have ever made it to 30 days.  My eyes need a break after about a week, so back when I wore them regularly, I would take them out and do an overnight clean once or twice a week, even though I didn't strictly have to.  The last few years, when I haven't been driving, I didn't bother to wear them at all unless I needed them in for some reason (driving lessons and test last year, for example), and then I'd open a fresh lens, wear it 'til it started to bother me, and then throw it away.

Bah!  They make cheez whizz to go on crackers but that doesn't mean anyone should.   When doctors aren't trying to sell you lenses to sleep in, they'll tell you to avoid them.

KFDANCER, I'm not surprised about your husband being able to wear daily lenses for many days.  One giant scam is that lenses designed to be worn every day for two weeks like I wear are exactly the same as the ones they sell as disposable.  They just sell the two week ones for a lot more money.

Would it not be easier just to get a pair of glasses for driving?  :)

Ready for the zinger...  my dad spent his career making contact lenses!  He had two kids (and himself) with perfect eyesight.  So he finally had a son in law who he could give free lenses too!   ;D  Can’t make this stuff up.

Current husband can’t find lenses that fit right.  He never took my suggestion of having the eye doctor write down his eyeball measurements (or have it done in the USA) and my dad could have made him custom lenses.  For free....

My dad retired last year.  No more lenses...

You are right. The only way to eat cheese whiz is directly from the can.

Jimbo,
Yeah, dailies are similar but they are probably a bit less robust and easier to tear. But the long wearing ones are different.

Dailies were always WAY more expensive than my one pair of lenses for 2 months contacts... Is the cost different over here or something?

The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

There was only one brand of contacts on the States I could wear,I'd blink them out otherwise.

An eye doctor recently told me that they've changed a lot in 4 years and there should be a lot of choice. I kind of find it hard to believe...

I'm extremely sensitive to light and need to wear sunglasses even on cloudy days.  Swapping out from untinted to sunglasses constantly would be annoying.  I suppose I could just take my glasses off when I go into a shop, or something.  But I'd still have to switch glasses at night... meh, it's too much hassle when I can just stick a lens on my eyeball for vision correction and wear sunglasses as neded to prevent migraines.

I have that problem with my right eye.  My left is the worse eye, vision-wise, and my right is good enough to get by, so my eye doctor and I agreed to stop trying to force it.  The worst was when it would fold over on itself and go up under my eyelid and get trapped in the top of my eye.  *shudder*  I hate that!

Ugh contact lense nightmares! I can't get my vision good enough to feel safe wearing them driving, so prescription sunglasses were the best investment I've had. Me and fluorescent lights aren't friends either on bad days so I just wear them inside too. But I have periodically tried contacts for exercise etc and each time I wanted to claw them out after an hour or two (even when doing the adjustment stuff). My eyes are just too dry for them, and like everything else I was allergic to most brands of drops & cleaning solutions so I gave up! I've accepted my fate of swapping glasses.

FRIDAY FRIDAY FRIDAY!!!!!

1.  Starvation diet is going well.  I do not appreciate the food threads at the moment though.  Looking forward to weighing on Monday and hopefully seeing the scale move in the right direction.  Which reminds me - hearing someone say "scales" hurts my ears.

2.  Hoping we can continue to make lots of progress on the back garden this weekend.  Sadly, we have decided to forgo a veggie patch at this time.  This decision was made due to us keeping an ash tree.  Would love it if we could get one "side" done this weekend for creating what will be the flower beds.  Unfortunately the weather does not appear as though it is going to cooperate.

3.  I've been offered a job teaching ballet (and potentially a tap class) on Saturday mornings.  I'm pondering.  I already work full time.  I've got the two young kids.  But DAMN, I'm at my happiest when I'm dancing.  The commitment is only for 2 hours each Saturday morning during term time.  But I'm in a bit of a quandary.  I'm going to propose that we trial it for a term and see if we are all happy at the end.  The school does not test, therefore it's okay that I'm not "UK qualified".  Part of me is fearful of not getting to sleep in on Saturday's!!!

4.  I think I'm going to be a World Cup Widow for the next month.

5.  EVERYONE at work is watching Love Island.  Except for the people who sit directly around me.  They are so lame.  But luckily everyone else is super cool.   ;D

It's great that you are keeping the tree!  :D Perhaps you could do a little bit of container gardening if you still want to grow a few veggies? You can do loads of things successfully that way, even potatoes!  ;D

That is EXACTLY what my husband said.  That we should get one of those veg trug things.   ;D

Happy Friday!

KF, would the activity of teaching the class allow you to do less starvation in your diet, or is teaching young children not active enough?  (I think you said somewhere that it would be young girls...?)

SCALES!  Oh my gawd, my husband says that, and it is weird.  I asked him why, and he could not explain it to my satisfaction, so I refuse to say it.

Good luck with your garden.  For us, the weather is never cooperative.

My five:

1.  On Wednesday, I had this idea that I would make meatballs and sauce, and potato gnocchi for dinner.  I made the gnocchi, and it turned out reasonably okay (not pretty, but they were fine).  Then I made the prettiest meatballs you've ever seen... started the sauce, and the meatballs disintegrated into it.  So I ended up making a very weird Bolognese.  The entire meal was destined to be a disaster.  Then my husband came home and the brown-outs started.  I needed electricity to pan fry the gnocchi just before serving, so we decided to wait a bit before risking getting halfway into finishing dinner and losing power.  We played a few games of backgammon and the power stayed on, so we went for it.  Fried the gnocchi, plated it, piled some of my "lovely" Bolognese on top, and my husband finished it off with a dusting of freshly grated Parmesan.  We cued up a show on Amazon Prime and sat down to eat,... and the power went out.

2.  The food wasn't too bad.  What was bad was the two days of leftovers it delivered.  I'm so tired of the weird Bolognese.

3.  It turns out my husband works 4-1/2 days a week, now that he's out of training and into his shifts.  Yesterday, he went in at 2pm and left at 7pm.  It was strange to have a normal lazy morning with him, and then at lunchtime he went off to work.  Going forward, he will have four 9-hour days and one 5-hour day each week.  He'll be off every Sunday, and his other day of will rotate (as will his 5-hour day, and the start and end time of his 9-hour days).  At least we know what the absolute latest he'll be getting home is, now, as this week his end time was the last shift.  And, this isn't all bad, because it means he'll be available during business hours occasionally to take care of things.

4. Western Power came round yesterday (in the first half of the day, while my husband was still home).  It was about the hedges that are getting fried at the top where they're coming into contact with the power lines (which could possibly explain the brown-outs we were having on Wednesday).  Apparently, our neighbours behind us, who don't own the hedge, authorized them to cut our hedge down to head height.  My husband just said, "No."  Then he said that they can cut it to a clearance of 2m. from the power lines.  Crazy neighbour lady came to our house and said, "blah blah blah head height".  My husband just said, "No."  One of the things we love about our garden is it blocks them.

5. This one's for KoD:  I decided we'd have burgers and chips for a meal this weekend, and I wasn't sure if we still had French's yellow mustard so I went to check the 'fridge.  Our mustard was best before 2015.  The worrying thing is, I remember eating mustard last summer.  I disposed of it and have ordered a new bottle to be delivered with today's groceries.  No more old mustard for us (even if it is mostly vinegar and probably safe to eat)!

Going to try to keep mine brief this time but my Friday 5 is..

1. MY PARENTS LAND TOMORROW FOR 2 WEEKS! (We'll see if we're all still alive by week 2 LOL). I've not even properly had time to be excited as I've just had a lot going on lately, but I know I will feel it tomorrow morning for the 6:50 AM pickup! I'm sure you all already know how much of a morning person I am....  ::)

2. Our bathroom is nearly finished! All the plastering on the bathroom, loft conversion, and odd left-off bits has been done so, for the bathroom, it's just a case of picking out some paint really :) The difference is honestly one I am really pleased with and should definitely bump the value up even slightly...next stop: the loft! We need to pick out carpets and sort out how we're going to do the little en suite bathroom and then it's all good to go!

3. Work is just a nightmare. Feel like I'm drowning in it. Husband put me forward for a PM role in his company as he reckons I'll get paid way more to do far less as a PM where he is than a PC where I am. I'm stressed to the MAX.

4. TRYING MY FIRST PENGUIN AS WE SPEAK! Here's the joke on mine: Who is a Penguin's favourite family member? (Aunt Arctica ....QUALITY JOKE).

5.I need to get my dress dry cleaned ASAP as I'm off to the races Tuesday!
My, how time flies....
