How did you break your ankle?  Sounds like you were having too much fun!

I bet you were doing bong hits on top of a human pyramid of gay sorority girls and submariners when it all collapsed into a pool of baby oil
Jimbo has a spy camera trained on me, don't you? Otherwise, there is no way you could have known what happened.

Oh hey, its Friday again!

1. My pain management appointment had to be rescheduled. Doctor was wearing too much fragrance for me to not have more trouble breathing. :(

2. I barely slept last night from the joy that is taking your first dose of prednisone at 7:30 pm. The first 2 days are always the most insomnia filled. But at least I stayed out of the hospital! My doctor called when I got home from work, as he happened to be the on call doc yesterday, and saw me immediately. It was faster than I have ever been seen in the US and so lucky.

3. In laws are visiting this weekend. Normally I get a little bit sick when seeing them, but I'm so wore down and expected to drive them around I'm a bit nervous. But it will be nice to see them, they love my kitty and miss her since she spent a couple months with them when we moved and had to find a kitty accepting rental. I have no idea what to do with them though. We don't have seating for 4 here and I'm not sure I'm up for a restaurant, so I may just send my husband out with them.

4. Husband bought a cheap laptop, so now I have one with a working screen to do pluralsight training on.

5. I think I need to learn more about disability advocacy. The treatment of disability here is appalling, especially invisible ones. But then you also have the public transit trying to keep mobility challenged folks in wheelchairs and scooters off of it. The lack of sensitivity and understanding and common decency just makes me so angry. I'm grateful that cell phones can now make some of those incidents very public, but it shouldn't have to be that way. We just want to exist in the same spaces and jobs that fully able bodied people can.

Woooo!  I'm first today!  I need to type faster, or wake up earlier.

1.  Monday morning, I woke up while my husband was still home, which is good, because he came into the bedroom, lounged on the bed and said, "so what do you want to do today?" with a cat-ate-the-cream smile on his face.  I started to list my usual time-killer activities, "browse the internet, do the washing up, go out to the workshop, maybe..." and he was all, "that sounds boring.  We should do something FUN!"  Turns out, he got one of the once-per-quarter days where you use up some of your flexi time as a personal day.  Surprise bonus weekend day!  So we finished paneling the workshop and ate all the tasty noms.  It was an exceedingly good (and productive!) day.

2. On Tuesday, my husband actually went to work, so I did all the boring stuff that I'd planned to do Monday... browsed the internet, washed the dishes, set fire to the microwave... the usual.  Apparently, my local Tesco used a security-embedded label for the £2.57 packet of beef mince I bought.  I was attempting to defrost it in the microwave while I dried the dishes.  Fortunately, I was stood right next to the microwave when I smelled the paper burning smell and looked ovver to see flames flickering in there.  I caught it early and dumped the flaming pile of plastic and mince (and just enough metal to kick things off) into the sink.  Still made me grumpy, though.

3. After the fire, I used a different packet of mince and went on to make some amazing chili.  It simmered for four hours!  When I came in from the workshop, the house smelled of chili, and not burnt plastic, so that was a win.

4.  Today is my husband's half-day, and then we have the whole weekend... and we finished the paneling in the workshop on Monday!  I don't even know what we're doing this weekend, but it won't be tedious paneling!

5.  I didn't try to reach for a gear shifter with my right hand and end up hitting the door yesterday.  Progress!

Oh man, microwave fires are the worst :( glad you caught that quickly enough!

And that is my hardest part of driving manual here. That and having to get in gear with the parking break on to pass the driving test.

Hmmm, picnic at South Hill Park?  Walk at Lily Hill Park or the Long Walk?  All free and all beautiful.  And VERY unlikely to be crowded.

This was my first microwave fire.  In all my years using a microwave, I've never messed up before.  I can't even fathom why there was a security label on my cheap Tesco beef mince.

I drove in the US for just about 20 years... most of that, I drove manuals.  I come over here, and everything's on the wrong side!  But I'm acclimating.  I didn't bash my knuckles into the door yesterday.

Oh hey, its Friday again!

Try to enjoy the visit!  Fortunately, mine only visit for the day occasionally.  They don't stay over as guests.  And they've only visited a handful of times.  More often, we go to see them.  Because they have a proper kitchen... and a dining table that seats 6 (at home, we sit around the coffee table).

A friend of ours gave my husband his old laptop when he bought a new one.  Because it was free, we don't mind exposing it a bit to the elements, so it's my new workshop laptop.  Yay!  No more lugging my laptop out there when I need it.  The free one lives out there now.  :)

FRIDAY!  FRIDAY!  FRIDAY!!!

1.  4 year old is back at nursery today.  She's been off for a few days as she's been ill.  She had been complaining of a sore throat and had a fever.  On Wednesday, as I was unexpectedly off of work, she came in with me to get stuff to take home to work from there.  And proceeded to start throwing up in front of everyone I work with.  I felt like the worst mother in the world!  There had been no sign of her being "properly sick" or else I wouldn't have brought her in - to say the least!

2.  Tomorrow is the big family BBQ I've been dreading.  Was supposed to be to welcome BIL, SIL, and niece back from having spent just over a year in the USA while SIL finishes her training.  It also happens to be MIL's birthday.  BIL had originally suggested a Michelin star restaurant (my husband and I are NOT those people.  Our kids have ZERO CHANCE IN HELL of being kids that can be at a Michelin star restaurant.  Nandos is a stretch for us).  We suggested a BBQ back.  This was back in April/May.  Well, SIL and niece are now not coming, as they are visiting SIL's family in Ireland instead.  Nice, eh?  So we have spent over £100 in food for a party I didn't even freaking want.  In honor of people who haven't even come...  ::)   The real reason why this bothers me is that my husband's 40th was in May and NO ONE did anything for him (the inlaws did send a card).  This was HIS year to be treated special.  Yet, he's the one doing for others (as usual).  He has a much bigger heart than I do.  :P

3.  Bought over 800 water balloons for tomorrow.  When his cousin arrives (who we adore), we are going to launch water balloons at her from the first floor of the house.  WE CAN'T WAIT!!!!  The cousin who lives in Australia also got her visa through so it'll be our goodbye to her until January (which is a very short time fortunately).

4.  Open house on our rental in the morning.  A few coming.  PRAYING we get a tenant tomorrow and the search will be over and done.

5.  Two weeks from today, we are off on our Summer Holiday!

Oh my gawd, KF, I would be livid!  What will you do with all the food?  Can you just invite your neighbours over and call it a fence celebration party?  I'm sure they won't think it's weird that your MIL and FIL are there.   And you husband's cousin sounds like good company at any time.  :)

Congrats on her visa!  I'm happy the 4yo is feling better, a lot for your sake.  No sign that anybody else is getting ill?  Good luck with the viewing!  Where are you going on holiday (because I know you... you're not just staying home)?

Everyone is still coming.  Just not the SIL and niece... the ones who we were welcoming home.  So it's basically a party for my MIL.  Which it should NOT be.   Ugh.  We'll have a good time.  I just want more from my inlaws than I'll ever get.  I need to stop setting such high expectations (like thinking they'd acknowledge hubby's 40th or want a copy of our family photo).

So far, I'm good.  And I would be most at risk for having been puked on.  And we are basically at the 48 hour mark.  In another 24 hours, I'll feel more confident for being out of the danger zone.  I'm not a good thrower-upper.  What was Albatross's word?  Burke?  I'm not a good burker....  if that's the word...

Off to Italy and Switzerland:
One night in Como on Lake Como
7 nights at a villa with a pool on Lake Maggiore in Switzerland
One night in Bellagio on the other side of Lake Como
2 nights in Milan

All new places none of us have been!  PIZZZZZZZZZZZAAAAAAAAA!!!!  FONDUE!!!  ICE CREAM!!!!!

I tried Larabee.  I TRIED SO HARD.

A million and one times, "I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY WE ARE NOT RESCHEDULING TO WHEN THEY ARE IN TOWN."

I was told we can have another BBQ.  Ummm... no.

Is it any wonder that I haven't seen my SIL in over 4 years?  It's obvious she thinks the same about this family that I do.  But uses her job as an excuse.  ;P

You had me at fondue.  Raclette is highly recommended, too.  Definitely have that.
